Coleman Sharp, but Cubs Fall to Sox in Extras
The Cubs jumped out to a 3-0 lead and Casey Coleman made that stand while he was in the game for three strong innings. However, Andy Sonnanstine had another rough outing which let the Sox right back in the game, and gave them a brief 5-3 lead. The Cubs were able to fight back and tie it late, but left runners on the corners in the 8th inning. Jordan Danks belted a 2-run homer in the 10th inning to give the White Sox a two run lead, and eventually the victory.

Full Box Score
At the Plate:
The cubs had a productive day at the plate, they sprayed the ball all over the field in scoring five runs on ten hits. Campana, Vitters, and Castro all had two hits on the day, both Castro and Vitters had doubles. Vitters also drove in one, had a walk, and scored two runs. Amezaga had a two-run double to tie the game in the eighth inning. Baker, Jackson, and Rizzo all had hits on the day as well.
On the Mound:
Some good, some bad for the Cubs in the pitching department on Sunday afternoon. Casey Coleman got the start, and went three strong, scoreless innings. Kerry Wood, and Carlos Marmol both followed with scoreless innings as well. Marmol has now had two scoreless appearances since he sat down with Sveum and had “the talk.” Andy Sonnanstine got beat up again, he gave up five runs on six hits, and two walks over 2 innings of work. Mateo was tagged with the loss, after working two innings and giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on three hits over two innings.
Travis Wood takes the ball on Monday afternoon against the Mariners. This is a big start for Wood if he want’s to be apart of not only the Cubs rotation this season, but the team. Wood has been knocked around so far this spring, especially his last outing giving up six runs on three hits, with two walks over 1/3rd of an inning. Spots and chances are becoming limited as Samardzija and Volstad have been lights out so far. The game will be broadcast live and FREE on Cubs.com at 3:05 PM Central.
