April 23 – 25; vs Cardinals – Series Recap
Cubs Win Series 2 – 1
Full recap after the jump.
What an exciting series, well, at least the first two games were. this series had everything, tremendous pitching performances, late inning blown saves, clutch hits, basically everything. For maybe the first time all year Wrigley Field was filled with energy, there was a buzz, and maybe the Cubs fed off of that. Bryan LaHair was a monster in the series, without him the Cubs might have been swept. The walk he drew in the 9th inning in game 1 was probably bigger than the game tying home run he hit in the 9th inning in game 2. The concern that lingers after this one is a familiar one, is Carlos Marmol done? I don’t think Cubs fans will like the answer, but I will tread lightly and say it’s too early to tell. I have a horrible feeling that the Cubs missed their chance to sell high with Marmol and now they are stuck with an aging closer, who has lost all confidence in himself and his stuff. Sure he can turn it around, but I think the rest of baseball has caught up to Marmol, and he doesn’t have the ability to make the necessary adjustments. Great outings from Samardzija and Garza in this series, really looking forward to seeing more good than bad from them this year. A series win! Definitely something to build on as the Cubs hit the road, their confidence level has to be at a season high.
