7/9: Around the Cubs Minor League System

FULL BOX SCORE 

Boise gave up six in the sixth which was way too much to come back from.  Yakima beat the Hawks 10-4.  Offensively Trey Martin was 3-for-4 with a run scored.  Rock Shoulders connected on his second homer of the season.  Jeimer Candelario only had one hit, but he drove in two on the night.  Gioskar had a hit and drove in a run and Wilson Contreras had two hits.  Felix Pena pitched four quality innings only giving up one run on three hits.  Shawon Dunston Jr. had a triple and scored a run.  This year’s draft pick Bijan Rademacher had a hit and his average now stands at .406.  Willington Cruz struggled in an inning of work and took the loss, his third of the young season.

FULL BOX SCORE 

Peoria gave up three in the ninth to lose a heartbreaker to Cedar Rapids 4-3.  Although it was a tough loss there was some good that came out of the game.  Javier Baez had two hits today and connected on his sixth homer of the season.  Wes Darvill also was 2-for-4 and hit a home run and scored two runs.  The Chiefs got a hit a piece from Zeke DeVoss, Taiwan Easterling, Yasiel Balaguert, and Pin-Chieh Chen.  Balaguert hit a double and drove in a run.  Michael Jensen pitched well giving up one run on four hits in five innings.  Sheldon McDonald and Austin Reed each pitched well and Boise went into the ninth with a 3-1 lead.  Luis Liria really struggled with his command and gave up three runs in the ninth as Peoria lost a tough one.

FULL BOX SCORE 

Daytona jumped out scoring three in the first, but couldn’t hold it as they lost to Lakeland 5-4.  Offensively Arismendy Alcantara was 4-for-5 with a run scored.  John Andreoli and Rebel Ridling each had two hits with Ridling scoring two runs.  Matt Szczur, Rubi Silva, and Dustin Harrington each had a hit on the night.  Szczur scored one and drove one in and Silva drove in two on the night.  Robert Whitenack struggled giving up five runs on eight hits while walking three in 2.1 innings.  The bullpen did a great job not surrending a run and only giving up three hits in the next 5.2 innings.

FULL BOX SCORE 

A big four run third led to a Tennessee vicory on Monday.  Chattanooga had a late surge, but the Smokies held on to win 4-3.  Dallas Beeler started and got the win.  He gave up no runs on four hits while striking out seven in seven innings.  After some struggles Frank Batista had to come in and get the last two outs to record his 16th save.  Offensively Logan Watkins led the way going 2-for-4 with a double, triple, a run scored, and two RBIs.  Junior Lake, Justin Bour, and Juan Apodaca each had a hit.  Lake and Bour each hit a double and each drove in a run on Monday.  It was a nice win for Tennessee.
