August 14, 2012 – Cubs Lineup vs. Astros

The Cubs go for two wins in a row tonight, try to hold back the excitement, I bet you can’t.  Chris Volstad will take the ball, and as I already predicted in the series preview he will end his calendar year-long losing streak tonight in spectacular fashion.  I know it’s not really going out on a limb to predict a win against the Astros, but I don’t care.  Here is how the Cubs will line up tonight, hint: I like it.

1. DeJesus – RF
2. Vitters – 3B
3. Rizzo – 1B
4. Soriano – LF
5. Castro – SS
6. Castillo – C
7. Jackson – CF
8. Barney – 2B
9. Volstad

Fun Fact:  Only four Cubs have faced Lucas Harrell, two of them are in Iowa (Sappelt, Campana) and one should be (Valbuena).  In total the Cubs have 4 plate appearances against Harrell, ever.  They are 2-for-3 with a walk, Soriano is 1-for-1

August 13, 2012 – Cubs Lineup vs. Astros

The Cubs off a three game set with the Astros at soggy Wrigley Field tonight.  Jeff Samardzija takes the ball, and is backed by what I think is the best lineup since Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters were called up.

1. DeJesus – RF
2. Vitters – 3B
3. Rizzo – 1B
4. Soriano – LF
5. Castro – SS
6. Castillo – C
7. Jackson – CF
8. Barney – 2B
9. Samardzija – P

August 11, 2012 – Cubs Lineup vs. Reds

The Cubs look to get back on track today behind Travis Wood as he faces his former team.  Starlin Castro is in the lineup today after some speculation that he would be out today based on Sveum’s comments last night.  Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters are both on the bench, and Bryan LaHair gets his first start in a while in right.

DeJesus CF
Barney 2B
Rizzo 1B
Soriano LF
Castro SS
Valbuena 3B
LaHair RF
Clevenger C
T.Wood P

Cubs Game Delayed [UPDATE]

Officially in a delay, no estimated start time.  Raining hard now, looks lighter later, but pretty wet all night.  Hopefully they squeeze it in.

[UPDATE] First pitch scheduled for 8:00PM, roughly.

[UPDATE] Tarp back on the field after pitchers warmed up. Not good.

August 9 2012 – Cubs Lineup vs. Reds

The Cubs will look to end their losing streak as they send Chris Volstad to the mound against the first place Reds tonight.  It has been a rainy day in the Chicagoland area so hopefully that will stay away so the game can be played.  Josh Vitters is out of the lineup once again as Luis Valbuena gets the start.  After a mental day off Brett Jackson gets back in there, but hitting down a little bit in the order.  The Cubs should be excited to get back home and hopefully end this losing streak.  The game is set to start at 7:05 on CSN.

DeJesus – RF
Barney – 2B
Rizzo – 1B
Soriano – LF
Castro – SS
Valbuena – 3B
Jackson – CF
Clevenger – C
Volstad – P

August 8, 2012 – Cubs Lineup vs. Padres

Brett Jackson gets the day off as he has struggled since his call up, I wouldn’t really call it struggling but he is striking out a lot and Sveum is probably just giving him a mental health day.  Another change is Soriano is back in the lineup today, which is a good thing for the Cubs and possibly Soriano who still has a chance to be traded to a contender.  Here is how the Cubs will line up as they look to end their seven game losing streak.

1. DeJesus – CF
2. Barney – 2B
3. Rizzo – 1B
4. Soriano – LF
5. Castro – SS
6. Castillo – C
7. Vitters – 3B
8. Mather – RF
9. Samardzija – P

Soriano scratched tonight

Alfonso Soriano has been scratched from tonight’s lineup because of a swollen right hand.  Soiano had his hand stepped on last night while sliding into second base.  He is considered day-to-day and expects to be back Wednesday.  New lineup has not been announced yet.

August 7, 2012 – Cubs Lineup vs. Padres; Sveum Rant

I’ve given Dale Sveum the benefit of the doubt all season, but I can’t let this one go right now.  Before Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters were called up Sveum said that they weren’t going to get called up to sit on the bench.  This is Vitters 3rd game with the Cubs, he has now been on the bench for two of them.  It goes against everything Theo has preached and everything Dale has said.  I don’t have a problem with working a young guy into the lineup if you are a contending team, or have your 2013 third baseman currently playing the position.  In both cases the Cubs don’t.  If Vitters is not ready to play every day he needs to play every day in Iowa, there is nothing wrong with that and falls in line with what Theo has said all along about bringing up prospects, he wants 162 games from them in AAA, well Vitters has 110 or so in triple A, don’t call him up just to call him up.  It reeks of a panic move from a front office that hasn’t come close to panicking all year, why now?  Any way, here’s the lineup for tonight, let’s score a run!  Brooks Raley is making his major league debut tonight, pitching in that park should help him a lot.

1. DeJesus – RF
2. Jackson – CF
3. Rizzo – 1B
4. Soriano – LF
5. Castro – SS
6. Clevenger – C
7. Valbuena – 3B
8. Barney – 2B
9. Raley – P

1. Jackson – CF
2. Barney – 2B
3. Rizzo – 1B
4. Soriano – LF
