4/20: I-Cubs Rally Falls Short

Frankie De La Cruz didn’t have it against the Isotopes, giving up three runs in the first inning that the I-Cubs couldn’t come all the way back from.  The  I-Cubs did make a game of it as they scored runs in both the 8th and 9th inning, but couldn’t get that tying marker.  Alfredo Amezaga had a solid day at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.  Full box score after the jump.

Iowa Falls in Extra Innings Shootout

22 hits and 10 runs was not enough for Iowa Sunday Night as they fell to the Round Rock Express 11-10 in 13 innings.  Every I-Cubs starter had at least one hit, all but two of them had a run scored as well.  Tony Campan had a big day goinf 3-for-4 with a solo home run.  Adrian Cardenas had four hits, and Alfredo Amezaga had five hits.  Anthony Rizzo continued hit torrid start going 3-for-7 with a run scored.  Randy Wells was the opposite of good, he only lasted 2 and 1/3rd innings giving up 8 runs on 8 hits, while walking three and striking out 3.  Full box score after the jump.

21 Non Roster Players on Their Way to Mesa

Another sign that spring training is right around the corner, aside from the 50 degree temperatures in Chicago today, is that the Cubs have announced the twenty one non roster players that will be invited to spring training.  Headlining that list is 23 year old outfield prospect Brett Jackson.  While none of these players will necessarily break camp with the Cubs (nine have previous MLB experience) they will all have the same opportunity to do so during spring training.  It will be interesting to see how the Cubs new staff on, and off the field evaluates the organization’s time in Arizona.
