Cubs Rout Rockies Behind Soriano Bombs

The Cubs offense continued it’s torrid pace Tuesday afternoon against the Rockies, pounding out 14 hits and scoring 11 runs.  The Cubs have double digit hits in all three games this spring, and have scored 28 runs.  These gaudy numbers have only yielded one win, but Cubs fans have to like what they see.  Alfonso Soriano got things started today by blasting a 450ft home run, his first of two bombs on the day, to pull the Cubs within one, and the bats never looked back after that.  Later in the inning, Cubs top prospect Brett Jackson hit a big 3-run homer to put the Cubs up for good 4-2. Anthony Rizz also had a productive day at the plate getting two hits, and driving in two runs.

Saturday’s Intrasquad Game Ends in Tie

In an effort to keep some guys fresh for tomorrow’s spring training opener, the Cubs intrasquad game today was called after five innings tied at three.  For the second straight day Brett Jackson went deep, this time off of Chris Rusin.  The big blow of the game came of Joe Mather’s bat, he launched a three run homer off Trey McNutt.  The pitching was the story today, as Chris Rusin and Jay Jackson were dealing.  Rusin finished with a line of 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K’s, while Jackson was lights out finishing with a line of 3 IP, and 1 K, he was perfect.  The Cubs get down to business tomorrow as they open the Spring Training Schedule against the A’s, a full preview is coming up.
