Cubs Rally to Pound White Sox

Full Box Score

Nothing was going right for the Cubs early on as Travis Wood couldn’t keep the ball down, and the Sox took advantage.  A three spot for the Sox in the first put the Cubs in a hole but they successfully dug out with the long ball.  On the day, the Cubs “B” lineup cracked four dingers, turning that 3-0 deficit into a 10-7 victory.  Back to Wood, he worked in and out of trouble all day, he tossed 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on eleven (!) hits while walking none, and striking out two.  Back to the dingers, David Ross, Arismendy Alcantara, Taylor Teagarden, and Anthony Giansanti all left the yard, tasty.  It was another strong game from Albert Almora, no he didn’t take a lot of pitches, but finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored, he’s now hitting .381 on the spring.

Cubs Slaughter White Sox behind dominant Samardzija

Cubs 5-27 line

Full Box Score

It doesn’t get much better than that, the Cubs absolutely handing the Sox their lunch tonight as Jeff Samardzija had the Sox looking like a triple A team.  Samardzija was brilliant, as he went the distance for the complete game shut out and victory.  That last sentence doesn’t really tell the story of how dominant Samardzija was, so I’ll add one more.  Shark not only went the distance, he gave up only two hits, while walking two and striking out eight.  For a pitcher that has lost 1-0 already twice this year the Cubs offensive outburst must have been a welcomed site.  The top of the order led the charge in this one, the one through four hitters were a combined 9-for-18 with a double, a triple, a home run, and six RBI’s.  Beating the Sox should count for two wins, you know, because it feels so good.

Cubs Beat Cross Town Rivals

The Cubs beat the White Sox today 5-1.  The pitching was the difference as the Cubs staff only surrendered four hits today.  Starting pitcher Travis Wood pitched well and so did Randy Wells who induced a bases loaded double play to Paul Konerko to end the 3rd.  Also in relief today was Lopez, Rhee, and Castillo.  The Cubs offense was powered by Edgar Gonzalez, Steve Clevenger, and Marlon Byrd who all hit their first homers of the spring.  Soriano stayed hot leading the game off with a double later scoring on a Darwin Barney base hit.  It is always nice to beat the Chicago White Sox whether it is spring training or not.

Full Box Score on its way.
