Soriano Goes Deep Again in Victory Over Indians
Another day, another big home run from Alfonso Soriano, hopefully he can bottle this magic and take it North with him next week. Soriano has been on fire at the plate, hitting six home runs on the spring, he’s clearly motivated, and a motivated Soriano can be a dangerous one for the rest of the National League.
Cubs Drop a Close One to Giants
In one of the best played games of the Spring, meaning the game was similar to a regular season game, the Cubs fell 3-2 to the Giants. Matt Garza had a decent outing, going 4 innings, and allowing two runs on three hits. Rafael Dolis, and Chris Rusin continued their strong Spring both tossing scoreless frames.
Volstad Shines on the Mound, Rizzo Propels Cubs to Victory
Another day, another fantastic start from a Cubs pitcher. Chris Volstad was stellar again for the Cubs, going 3 innings allowing just two hits, and striking out one. Volstad has now gone 6 innings this Spring and has yet to yield any runs. The Cubs also got solid performances from Jay Jackson, Scott Maine, and Alberto Cabrera. Andy Sonnanstine was roughed up a bit but the Cubs managed to hang on with Cabrera earning the save.
Some Good Signs in Blowout Loss
The day got off to a bettar than decent start with Soriano blasting his third homerun of the spring season, and Chris Volstad working three spotless innings. Kerry Wood also made his spring debut and was solid, that was about the extent of the good portion of the day as the wheels fell off shortly there after. Carlops Marmol was touched up, big time. He faced seven hitters on the day, five of them reached base, and four of them scored. Something positive or negative that can be taken away from that depending on how you look at it was Marmol only hit one batter and walked no one. He gave up four hits including a three run blast to rising prospect Dustin Ackley, one outing is not cause for concern, but it is a shock to the system for sure.
