Jose Rosario was outstanding Monday, unfortunately the Chiefs offense couldn’t provide any offense for him as the Chiefs fell 3-1 to Wisconsin.  Rosario was lights out going seven strong innings allowing one run on three hits, while walking no one and striking out seven.  2011 first round pick Javy Baez made his Peoria debut and he didn’t disappoint.  Baez was 2-for-4 in his first Peoria game, both hits were singles.  Zeke DeVoss was 1-for-4 on the day with a double, and he stole his 12th bag of the season.

FULL BOX SCORE

The Smokies fell behind early, and by a lot as Huntsville built up a 7-1 lead by the third inning which was too much for Tennessee as they fell 8-4.  Dae-Eun Rhee was knocked around quite a bit, he only lasted two and one-third giving up seven runs, all earned, on nine hits, while walking two.  Rhee’s record falls to 3-2 on the season while his ERA sky-rockets to 5.50.  Rebel Ridling continued his power surge as he went 1-for-4 with his 6th home run of the season.  Luis Flores was 1-for-2 at the plate with two walks and two RBI’s.

FULL BOX SCORE

Brooks Raley rebounded from his last outing to pitch very well to earn his first AAA win and extend the I-Cubs winning streak to four.  Raley went five innings only giving up two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out two.  The I-Cubs offense didn’t miss a beat with Rizzo sidelined.  They pounded out 15 hits and 8 runs en route to the 8-2 victory.  Five different Cubs had multi-hit games.  Josh Vitters was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI’s.  Brett Jackson was also 2-for-5 at the plate with his 7th triple of the season.  Dave Sappelt continues his resurgence at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

FULL BOX SCORE

Crazy finish sees Peoria’s rally fall just short as they lost to Cedar Rapids 5-4 last night.  Tied at two for most of the game Cedar Rapids plated three runs in the bottom of the 8th to lead 5-2.  Peoria fought back with two runs in the top of the ninth but couldn’t come all the way back.  Michael Jensen pitched well enough for the win but finished his night with a no decision after 5 and 1/3rd innings of work.  Peoria couldn’t string any hits together, Paul Hoilman finished the night 2-for-5 and Oliver Zapata was 1-for-1 with three walks and two runs scored.

FULL BOX SCORE

Matt Loosen was really good again for Daytona as he went 6 and 2/3rds while only allowing one run on two hits.  Loosen was in line for the loss but the D-Cubs pushed a run across in the 7th to tie it.  Trailing 3-1 into the bottom of the ninth the D-Cubs came all the way back and walked off to win 4-3.  Matt Szczur had a big hand in the win going 2-for-4 again as his average is now up to .265.  Arismendy Alcantara, Chad Noble, and John Andreoli all had two hits in the victory.

FULL BOX SCORE

For seven innings it looked like the Smokies were on their way to another win, but the bullpen couldn’t hold it as they surrendered five runs in the 8th en route to an 8-5 loss.  Dae-Eun Rhee was in line for the win after going six strong innings, giving up three runs on eight hits.  Junior Lake was 2-for-4 at the plate with a walk and a run scored, he is now hitting .283 on the season.  Rebel Ridling seems to be heating up as he went deep again for his fourth home run on the season, third in his last two games.

FULL BOX SCORE

Jay Jackson didn’t have it last night as he only lasted three innings while giving up six runs on nine hits on his way to his fourth loss of the season as Iowa fell 8-2 to Tacoma.  Alfredo Amezaga was 2-for-3 at the plate with two walks, a double, and two runs scored.  Blake DeWitt and Juan Apodaca each had two hits in the loss.  The I-Cubs walked a total of 10 times, but only scored two times, inopportune to say the least.

FULL BOX SCORE

For the second straight day the Tennessee Smokies pounded the ball all over the place en route to a win over the Jackson Generals.  Today’s effort included 12 hits and 10 runs as that was just enough for a 10-8 victory.  Junior Lake is on a tear since returning from the DL, he went 3-for-5 today with a double, a run, and three RBI’s.  Justin Bour joined the fun going 2-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBI’s.  Dae-Eun Rhee didn’t have his best stuff, but he didn’t get any help from his defense.  Rhee only lasted four innings, allowing six runs, only two earned however, good enough for a no decision.

FULL BOX SCORE

Anthony Rizzo is making it very hard for the powers that be to ignore him.  Rizzo went 3-for-4 today with his 13th home run of the season, he added a triple for good measure.  He also had two more RBI’s which bring his season total to 37.  Randy Wells continued his career meltdown giving up seven runs, all earned in five innings of work to earn his second loss of the season.  Mike MacDougal, who was just signed by the Cubs today, showcased his talents in 2/3rds of an inning by walking four guys and allowing two runs in mop up duty of a 9-4 loss.

An early hole was too much for Daytona to climb out of as they fell to the Stone Crabs 8-3.  The D-Cubs pounded out 9 hits, but were only able to tally runs in the 2nd and 8th innings respectively.  Matt Szczur was 1-for-3 at the plate as he continues his surge with his average now sitting at .250.  Frank Del Valle started for the D-Cubs and took the loss giving up five runs in five innings, he’s now 2-1 on the season.

FULL BOX SCORE

Dae-Eun Rhee was outstanding Thursday Night for the Smokies, going 7 and 2/3rd’s of an inning while only giving up one earned, which was unearned.  Rhee only allowed four hits, and walked only one guy en route to his 3rd win of the season.  Nate Samson had the big hit for the Smokies with a two run double in the second inning which was all the Smokies needed in a 4-1 win over Birmingham.

***

FULL BOX SCORE

One of the few nights that Anthony Rizzo didn’t run the I-Cubs offense, but that was alright as the rest of the team really picked up the slack in a 10-1 win against Fresno.  Luis Valbuena, Josh Vitters, and Dave Sappelt all had big days at the plate.  Vitters was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI’s as he tries to get back on track after slumping a bit.  Lost in an offensive firestorm was the solid start of Randy Wells.  Wells was solid, going six innings and allowing only one run for his second win of the season.
