Blake Parker, Marcus Hatley and Jay Jackson combined to pitch the next 3.2 innings before giving the ball to Jairo Asencio. Asencio closed out game one recording his second save.

After winning a few 1-0 games the Boise Chiefs held on to win a shootout 10-9. It was a wild game as Boise had a big lead, but gave it up and had to win in walk-off fashion. The Hawks pitching struggled most of the night, but the offense did the the job. He pitched five innings surrendering two runs on three hits, while striking out six. Jeffry Antigua continued to impress pitching two more scoreless innings. Nothing too exciting happening for Boise tonight.
****

Hunter Cervenka and Jeffrey Lorick combined to pitch three scoreless innings, striking out a batter each. AJ Morris closed the deal striking out two in one scoreless inning, notching his fourth save of the season.
****
Tennessee’s game was suspended because of rain. The Smokies were winning 2-1 in the fourth and will be continued tomorrow as part of a double header.
****
Iowa dropped another to New Orleans losing Tuesday 5-3. Frankie De La Cruz started and took the loss giving up three runs in four innings. Jairo Asencio and Marcus Hatley did a nice job in relief both throwing a scoress inning. Dave Sappelt was the main bright spot for the Cubs offense going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Brett Jackson hit his 21st double of the season and drove in his 46th run as well. James Adduci had another hit and is hitting .375 since his promotion to Triple-A. 6/15: Around the Cubs Minor League System
Exciting day for the Cubs system as the Boise Hawks opened their season. Here is June 15th recap of the Cubs system.

Opening day for the Boise Hawks didn’t exactly end how they would have liked as the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes spoiled it with a 3-2 win in 12 innings. Jose Arias was outstanding in his first start of the season going five strong innings allowing no runs, on three hits while walking none and striking out two. Marco Hernandez really had a tough night, and was a big reason that the Hawks came up short. Hernandez made three errors, the final one allowed the winning run to score in the 12th, it’s too bad as he was 2-for-5 at the plate. Xavier Batista had a nice night at the plate going 2-for-4 with two doubles in the losing effort. Shawon Dunston Jr. was 0-for-3 in the lead-off spot but did manage two walks.
****

The Peoria Chiefs wasted no time in getting back to .500 as they came from behind to beat Clinton 6-4. The Chiefs fell behind early 3-0 but struck for five runs in the 5th inning to take the lead for good. Starling Peralta started for the Chiefs and struggled giving up four runs in 5.1 innings on five hits, but earned his first win of the season. The bullpen did a great job for the Chiefs as they went the final 3.2 innings without giving up a run. The Chiefs really knocked the ball around the park, pounding out 13 hits. Dustin Geiger stayed hot going 3-for-5 with an RBI, he is now hitting .324 on the season. Zeke DeVoss and Pin-Chieh Chen each had two hits while Javy Baez was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
****

The Tennessee Smokies continued their unreal stretch winning their 10th game in their last 11 tries. The torrid run has brought the Smokies all the way back to the .500 mark on the season. Dallas Beeler started for the Smokies and pitched well, and out of a few jams. Beeler allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings of work to get his second win of the season. Logan Watkins had a great day in the lead-off spot as he went 3-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and a stolen base. Junior Lake was 2-for-5 at the plate with two stolen bases, and two runs scored, he’s now hitting .294 on the season. Rebel Ridling had the big hit for the Smokies, a three run double in the first inning, he was 1-for-4 on the night.
****

It looked like the I-Cubs were well on their way to a victory then Mike MacDougal came into the game and did his best Mike MacDougal impression giving up three runs in the top of the 8th to lose 4-3. Frankie De La Cruz pitched very well for the I-Cubs, he went five strong innings giving up one run on five hits while walking two and striking out three. Alfredo Amezaga was 3-for-5 with an RBI out of the lead-off spot for the I-Cubs. Ty Wright and Juan Apodaca each had two hits in the losing effort. Anthony Rizzo made his return to the lineup and was 1-for-3 with a walk, but more importantly he was healthy enough to play.

The Smokies got the scoring started in the third when Micahel Burgess connected on his fifth home run of the year. Huntsville tied the game in the fifth at one. The Smokies broke the tie in the seventh when James Adduci doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. Brian Schlitter got the last two outs of the seventh and got his first win of the year. Keven Rhoderick pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Frank Batista struck out the side to record his seventh save of the year.
****
Nothing is more exciting than a walk-off win, and that is exactly what Ronald Torreyes did connecting on his first home run of the season and giving Daytona a 7-6 victory. Including Torreyes, Chad Noble, Rubi Silva, Greg Rohan, and Arismendy Alcantara all had two hits on the day. Brevard County got the scoring started in the first scoring three runs. Daytona would put up six spot in the third highlighted by a Nelson Perez grandslam. For Perez it was his eight home run and he now has 34 RBI’s. Good news for Cub fans he struck out two and did not walk anybody.
GAME 2 (7 innings)
Omaha jumped on Jay Jackson and the Cubs early and Iowa was never able to rebound. The lone offensive highlight came from Brett Jackson who hit his sixth home run of the season in the sixth. Ty Wright was the only other Cub to record a hit in game two. The same could not be said for Omaha who had eleven hits and ten runs in seven innings. Jay Jackson gave up the firs six runs and Shane Lindsay had a very rough outing walking four of the five batters he faced. All four runs in the sixth were charged to him and the Cubs lost 10-1 in game 2.

5/18: Around the Cubs Minor League System
Here is the recap of the Cubs minor league system from 5/18/12, enjoy.
A late explosion of runs from Clinton was too much for the Chiefs to handle as they fell 8-2, with Clinton scoring six of their runs in the 7th and 8th inning. Rafael Lopez was 2-for-4 at the plate in the losing effort as the Chiefs only had five hits total in the game. Jose Rosario pitched well enough but couldn’t avoid being tagged with his 4th loss of the season. Rosario only allowed two runs of 5 and 1/3rd and had nine strikeouts.
***
Daytona used some big time hitting to not only get back in a game they trailed early in but to win it, beating Palm Beach 8-4. Matt Szczur was 2-for-5 at the plate, and had two stolen bases, which gives him a total of 18 on the season. Arismendy Alcantara, Greg Rohan, and Richard Jones all had three hits to pace the D-Cubs attack with Jones driving in three runs. Frank Del Valle was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst has he worked six solid innings for his third win of the season.
***
The Smokies couldn’t solve the Braves pitching as they fell 4-2 in Mississippi. Jae-Hoon ha was 2-for-4 in the losing effort. The only offense came from Luis Flores who was 1-for-2 with both Smokies RBI’s. Nicholas Struck made it into the 7th inning but couldn’t make it out as he was handed his 4th loss of the season, he gave up four runs to elevate his ERA to 4.09 on the campaign.
***
The Iowa Cubs couldn’t hang on to an early 3-0 lead as the ended up falling to Salt Lake 5-4 in 10 innings.
