Minor Matters – May 10, 2013 (Cubs Minor League Recaps)
At The Plate – Game one of the Cougars/Bees double-header needed three extra innings, but it paid of for the Cougars as they stung the Bees 2-1…stung, because they are Bees! Oliver Zapata was 1-for-4 with an RBI, and a walk, Zapata had the game winning hit in the top of the tenth. Bijan Rademacher continues to hit going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, he’s now hitting .378 on the season. Marco Hernandez was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the victory.
On The Mound – The Cougars got back to dealing in this one as they were brilliant all game long. Tayler Scott got the start and was really good going 5.1 innings giving up one run on four hits while walking three and striking out six. Steve Perakslis worked 1.2 scoreless innings out of the pen while walking one. Nathan Dorris was good per usual as he worked two scoreless inning while striking out two to earn his first win of the season. Ian Dickson worked a scoreless inning to earn his first save of the season, he gave up one hit while striking out one.
At The Plate – Nothing happening for either team in the first five innings, then the Cougars broke out, scoring twice in the sixth and seventh to sweep the double-header 4-1. The Cougars could only manage four hits in game two, but walked four times and were 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position. Rock Shoulders was 1-for-3 with his seventh home run of the season, an RBI, and a run scored. Bijan Rademacher has been out of his mind, he was 1-for-3 with his first home run of the season, an RBI, and a run scored. David Bote and Oliver Zapata were each 1-for-2 with a walk, and a run scored.
On The Mound – Felix Pena was brilliant again for the Cougars going six innings giving up one run on two hits while walking five, and striking out six. Eddie Orozco came on to finish things off by tossing a scoreless seventh, he gave up two hits while walking one and striking out one.
At The Plate – Nothing good in this one as Iowa was destroyed by the Sky Sox, they were out of it right from the get go. Logan Watkins was 1-for-2 with a double, a stolen base, and an RBI. Donnie Murphy was 1-for-3 with a stolen base, and a walk in the loss. Darnell McDonald was 1-for-4 with a double, and a run scored. The Cubs were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
On The Mound - Brooks Raley got the start and he was pounded, early and often. Raley went four innings giving up eight runs on eleven hits while walking three and striking out four. Yoanner Negrin settled things down out of the pen going three innings giving up one run, unearned, on one hit while walking one and striking out five. Rafael Dolis struggled in his return to Iowa going one inning giving up two runs on two hits while walking two and striking one.
At The Plate - A back and forth game ended with the Smokies rally falling just short in the bottom of the ninth as the Barons escaped with a 5-4 win. Matt Szczur was 2-for-3 with two walks, his tenth stolen base of the season, an RBI, and a run scored. Ronald Torreyes was 1-for-3 with two walks in the loss. Christian Villanueva was 2-for-3 with two singles as he looks to get it going, he’s now hitting .216 on the season. Rubi Silva was 1-for-4 with his sixth home run of the season, an RBI, and two runs scored.
On The Mound – Eric Jokisch hasn’t been good since being named the minor league pitcher of the month in April. Jokisch went 4.1 innings giving up five runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out four. Brian Schlitter was outstanding out of the pen going 2.2 scoreless innings giving up two hits while striking out two. Frank Batista was good as well going two scoreless innings giving up one hit while striking out two.
Minor Matters – May 3, 2013 (Cubs Minor League Reports)
At The Plate – The Smokies had a rough go of it last night as they were only able to record eight hits and two runs in eleven innings, they also struck out seventeen times, yikes. Ronald Torreyes was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Arismendy Alcantara was 1-for-5 with a double, his third of the season. Ty Wright was 2-for-4 with a double, and an RBI, he’s now hitting .280 on the season.
On The Mound – The Smokies were much better on the mound than they were at the plate. Alberto Cabrera was outstanding as he went six scoreless innings giving up two hits while walking two and striking out eight, he did not factor in the decision. A.J. Morris had a rough go of it out of the pen, he was only able to retire one hitter while giving up two runs on two hits while walking two. Trey McNutt was solid going 1.2 scoreless innings giving up two hits while walking one and striking out two. Marcus Hatley also had a scoreless appearance, he worked one inning giving up one hit while walking one and striking out three. Frank Batista took the loss in this one as he went 1.1 innings giving up one run on two hits while walking one and striking out one.
At The Plate – The Cougars started this double-header off right, it took a little longer than usual, but they got the win. A big reason why it took eleven innings was the Cougars inability to hit with runners in scoring position, they were a mind numbing 1-for15. Gioskar Amaya was 2-for-5 with a double, and a walk. Rock Shoulders, the newly crowned minor league player of the month kept things rolling, he was 2-for-6 with his sixth home run of the season, this one was a walk-off in the bottom of the eleventh. Chadd Krist was 1-for-2 with three walks, and a run scored in the win.
On The Mound - Solid work top to bottom on the mound in this one for the Cougars. Tayler Scott got the start and was solid, he went 5.2 innings giving up two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out one. Steve Perakslis was awfully good out of the pen going 2.1 scoreless innings giving up one hit while walking one and striking out two. Matt Iannazzo had his best outing of the season going three scoreless innings to get the win, he gave up one hit while walking two and striking out four.
At The Plate – Outstanding day for the Cougars as they swept the double-header against a very good Bowling Green team. Jeimer Candelario was 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and two runs scored. Rock Shoulders was at it again in game two, he was 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and an RBI, he’s now hitting .366 on the season. Bijan Rademacher was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the victory. The Cougars were much better in game two with RISP, they were 2-for-7 compared to the 1-for-15 disaster in game one.
On The Mound – Another solid job by the Cougars pitching in game two. Ian Dickson got the start, unfortunately he settled for a no decision, he went 4.2 innings giving up one run, unearned, on two hits while walking two and striking out four. Brian Smith was stellar out of the pen and earned the win going 2.1 scoreless innings giving up two hits while striking out five.
NOTES: Iowa and Daytona were both postponed.

Minor Matters – April 29, 2013 (Cubs Minor League Recaps)
At The Plate – Wild game in Iowa today that saw a total of twenty-four hits and nineteen runs between the two teams, unfortunately Iowa came up one run short. Logan Watkins was 2-for-4 with a walk, and RBI, and a run scored. Ryan Sweeney just doesn’t stop hitting, he was 2-for-4 with a walk, and two runs scored, he’s hitting .377 on the season. Brad Nelson is a huge man, he had a huge day going 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI’s, and two runs scored. Brett Jackson seems to be settling in at the plate, he went 1-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two RBI’s and a run scored.
On The Mound – Rough go of it for the Iowa pitchers in this one. Nick Struck got the start and worked three innings giving up five runs on four hits while walking four, and striking out one. Esmailin Caridad didn’t fare much better out of the pen going three innings giving up four runs on four hits while walking three and striking out five. Cory Wade worked two innings giving up one run on three hits while walking one and striking out one. Blake Parker was the only Iowa pitcher to escape unscathed in this one as he worked as scoreless inning while walking one and striking out two.
At The Plate – Not a lot of offense in this one, but just enough for Daytona as they squeaked by the Cardinals 2-1. Daytona just couldn’t get the big hit in this one to open the game up, they were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Dustin Geiger had a solid game and a huge hit, he was 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk, and a run scored. Javier Baez continues to hit, and make errors, he was 1-for-3 with his eleventh error of the season, it will happen, and he will improve. Chad Noble and Ben Carhart each had a double in the win.
On The Mound – Yeiper Castillo was disgusting good in this one, unfortunately he didn’t factor in the decision. Castillo went four scoreless innings giving up two hits while walking one and striking out eight. Luis Liria was solid out of the pen going two scoreless innings giving up one hit and striking out one. Hunter Cervenka blew the save, not really his fault, but also got the win. Cervenka went two innings giving up one run, unearned, on one hit while walking one and striking out four.
At The Plate - Game one was as good as it gets when it comes to pitching as the game was scoreless into the last of the seventh. That’s when Jae-Hoon Ha came off the bench and walked off with a three run shot to give the Smokies a 3-0 victory. That was really the only offense for the Smokies in game one as they managed seven hits, with only one extra base hit, the Ha home run. Rubi Silva was 1-for-3 with a stolen base, and a run scored in the win.
On The Mound – Kyle Hendricks was brilliant in this one but did not factor into the decision. Hendricks went six scoreless inning giving up one hit while walking one and striking out eight. Marcus Hatley came on in relief and earned the win after working one scoreless inning, striking out two in the frame.
At The Plate – Game two had the same final score, unfortunately the opposite result as the Smokies could only manage two hits all game in the defeat. Matt Szczur and Ronald Torreyes were each 1-for-3, and that was it.
On The Mound – Eric Jokisch had a rough go of it early, but then settled in to have a decent outing, but took his first loss of the season. Jokisch went five innings giving up three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out one. Frank Batista and Tony Zych kept things close as they both worked a scoreless inning out of the pen, unfortunately the Smokies couldn’t get anything done offensively.
At The Plate – What a crushing loss for the Cougars in game one, I guess the good news is that there is another game right away so they can forget this one. The Cougars led 6-2 heading to the last of the 7th (7th inning is the last inning in DH games) and they gave up five runs to lose 7-6. The Cougars only managed six hits but they were awfully productive in scoring six runs. Daniel Vogelbach blasted his third home run of the season, he ended game one going 1-for-4 with said home run, two RBI’s and a run scored. Rock Shoulders joined the fun as well as he launched his fifth home run of the season, he finished game one 1-for-3 with two RBI’s and a run scored. Willson Contreras was 2-for-3 with a stolen base, and two runs scored.
On The Mound – Felix Pena did everything possible to earn the win as he went six inning giving up two runs on five hits while striking out three. Then things went south, and quickly. Ian Dickson was the first out of the pen, he was only able to get through two-thirds of an inning giving up four runs on two hits while walking two and striking out one. Matt Iannazzo added fuel to the fire in relief of Dickson, as he didn’t retire a hitter and gave up one run on two hits while walking two to get the loss.
At The Plate – Game one’s disaster just zapped any energy that the Cougars might have had, and they still could have won this one. For the second time today the Cougars blew a late inning lead, this one wasn’t as bad as the first game though. The Cougars could only manage two hits in game two, I know, not very exciting. Daniel Vogelbach was 1-for-3 with another home run, an RBI, and a run scored. Oliver Zapata had the only other hit, a single, he also walked.
On The Mound – Michael Heesch pitched well early, then struggled late. Heesch worked five innings giving up four runs on six hits while walking one and striking out seven. Steve Perakslis worked a scoreless inning out of the pen, but it was too little too late.

Minor Matters – April 21, 2013 (Cubs Minor League Recaps)
At The Plate – Not much happening for the Cubs offense in this one as they lost a 1-0 heart breaker to the Redbirds. The Cubs could only manage six hits, all singles in the loss. Brent Lillibridge was 1-for-4, as was Ryan Sweeney, and Donnie Murphy. Darnell McDonald, Brian Bogusevic, and J.C. Boscan were each 1-for-3 in the loss.
On The Mound – The Cubs pitching did all they could and then some in this one, but still couldn’t get a victory. Drew Carpenter got the start and was solid despite having some command issues. Carpenter worked 5.2 scoreless innings giving up two hits while walking five and striking out six. Hisanori Takahashi worked 1.1 scoreless innings with a strikeout. Yoanner Negrin finally gave up a run, unfortunately that’s all it took to lose this one. Negrin went 1.2 innings, he gave up one run on two hits while walking one and striking out two, his ERA “sky-rocketed” to 0.79 on the season.
At The Plate – The Smokies looked to be well on their way to another win after a four run second inning, then they weren’t. Matt Szczur had another solid day going 1-for-4 with two walks, two RBI’s, and a run scored. Rubi Silva was 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, a run scored, a caught stealing, and an outfield assist, busy day. Anthony Giansanti finally has returned to action and had a solid day going 2-for-2 with a walk, a double, and a run scored.
On The Mound – A mixed bag from the Smokies pitchers, and a very costly error by Ronald Torreyes didn’t help. Alberto Cabrera got the start and was average going 5.1 innings giving up four runs on five hits while walking four and striking out one. Marcus Hatley was solid out of the pen going 1.2 scoreless innings while giving up one hit and striking out one. Kevin Rhoderick continues to struggle, he worked an inning giving up two runs on four hits whiles striking out one. Trey McNutt was outstanding, going two scoreless innings while striking out one. Tony Zych was the hard luck loser, he worked an inning and gave up three runs, all unearned, on one hit while walking one.
At The Plate – Not a lot to cheer about in this one as the D-Cubs did their best Major League Cubs impersonation in this one. Daytona could only manage two hits in this one, singles by Timothy Saunders and Jorge Soler. They did manage to earn three walks, but were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.
On The Mound – Not much better here for the D-Cubs. Ryan Searle got the start and got roughed up again. Searle went four innings giving up five runs on six hits while walking two and striking out four. Austin Reed wasn’t much better out of the pen going two innings giving up four runs, two unearned, on six hits while striking out two. David Cales worked two scoreless innings giving up one hit and striking out three, the lone bright spot of the day.
At The Plate - Crazy ballgame yesterday as the Cougars built a 4-0 lead going into the 6th inning, then things got weird. The Chiefs scored six times in the top of the 6th to take a 6-4 lead, then the Cougars scored three times in the bottom half to go back in front and that’s how it ended. Pin-Chieh Chen got a chance to lead-off in this one and delivered going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI’s, and a run scored. Rock Shoulders, or the guy who rarely makes an out, was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, he’s hitting .424 on the season, yikes. Chadd Krist was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and a run scored. Trey Martin finally busted out with the bat, and made a tremendous catch in CF as well, he was 3-for-4 with a stolen base, an RBI, a double, and two runs scored. Fun fact, Daniel Vogelbach had a stolen base today, the guy is rather athletic for his size.
On The Mound – Kane County only used two pitchers in this one, rather rare given the fact that six runs were given up, but I guess that’s what happens when it’s all in one inning. Felix Pena got the start at went 5.2 innings giving up five runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two. Ian Dickson got the win coming out of the pen going 3.1 innings giving up on run on four hits while striking out three.

Minor Matters – April 6, 2013
At The Plate – The Iowa Cubs scattered nine hits in the loss, and were 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position in suffering their third straight loss. Newly acquired Ryan Sweeney got things going right away as he was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a walk, and a run scored. Brad Nelson was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored.
On The Mound – Brooks Raley got the start and was rough up in four innings of work. He gave up four runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out three, he was tagged with the loss. Yoanner Negrin was solid out of the pen going two scoreless innings giving up no hits while walking one and striking out three. Zach Putnam and Rafael Dolis were both touched up as they gave up a combined four runs over the last two innings.
At The Plate - You wouldn’t know it by the score, this was a pitchers duel up until the top of the 12th when the Smokies scored 8 times to win this one. Matt Szczur was terrific from the lead-off spot again going 2-for-7 with three RBI’s, and a run scored. Jae-Hoon Ha continued his hot start going 3-for-5 with two RBI’s, a stolen base, and a run scored.
On The Mound – The Smokies had to use five pitchers to get through this one and all were effective as they totaled 15 strikeouts in twelve innings. Eric Jokisch got the start and was solid going six innings giving up one run on three hits while walking two and striking out seven. Kevin Rhoderick, Marcus Hatley, Frank Batista, and Brian Schlitter all had scoreless appearances with Batista getting the win.
At The Plate – It was the Jorge Soler show in this one as he went 2-for-3 with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored. Timothy Saunders also had a solid night going 3-for-4. Stephen Bruno was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Javier Baez had a rough night going 0-for-4 with an error.
On The Mound - The trio of Austin Kirk, Yao-Lin Wang, and Frank Del Valle shut down the Manatees. Kirk got the start and went three innings giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits while walking two and striking out two. Yao-Lin Wang was awesome going three innings only giving up a single, while walking one and striking out four. Frank Del Valle was even better going three innings only allowing one hit while walking one and striking out six to earn the save.
At The Plate – Fireworks everywhere as the Cougars trailed 7-0 and 8-1 before tying it at ten in the ninth before falling 13-10 in eleven innings. The Cougars pounded out 19 hits with seven guys having multi-hit nights. Daniel Vogelbach was 3-for-6 with a double and an RBI. Rock Shoulders had a huge game going 4-for-6 with two RBI’s and a run scored. Oliver Zapata was outstanding going 3-for-6 with a triple, a home run, five RBI’s, and a run scored.
On The Mound – Obviously not much good here. Cougars pitchers gave up 17 hits in the loss. Jose Arias got the start and got the brunt of the River Bandits attack. Arias only went 1.2 innings giving up seven runs, six earned, on seven hits while walking none and struck out two. Nathan Dorris was the most effective Cougar going 2.1 innings giving up one run on three hits while walking two and striking out three. Ian Dickson was solid but had no command, he went five innings giving up two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out four.

Nightmare Inning Dooms Boise
For six innings it looked like the Boise Hawks were on their way to a dominating game one victory which would have put them one win from a league championship. Two innings later the Hawks found themselves not only trailing in the game, but trailing in the series, and one game away from being eliminated.
The Hawks were clicking on all cylinders early, as Ian Dickson was dealing on the mound, and the Hawks brought their bats to Vancouver. Albert Almora got things started in the second inning with a one out single
and advanced to second on a Rock Shoulders ground out. Wilson Contreras followed with a clutch two out single to drive in Almora and give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. The Canadians wasted no time getting back into this one as they plated the tying run in the bottom half of the second on a Carlos Ramirez RBI double. It looked like the Canadians took the lead on the play but Matt Newman was called out at the plate when it looks like he might have been safe. Boise jumped back in front in the third behind a Daniel Vogelbach one out run scoring double that also put men at second and third. The opportunity was wasted as both Jeimer Candelario and Almora struck out swinging, and Boise had to settle for one run and a 2-1 lead. Ian Dickson ended his night after the third inning, and it was a terrific outing for Ian, he went three innings giving up one run on two hits while walking three and striking out three.
Justin Amlung took over for Dickson in the fourth with Boise hanging on to a precarious one run lead. Right of the bat Amlung was in trouble and it looked like Vancouver was ready to finally break through. The Canadians loaded the bases with nobody out, that’s when Amlung took it to another level by striking out the next three Canadian hitters to get out of the jam with the lead in tact. The Hawks were clearly inspired by Amlung’s performance
as they answered the Vancouver 4th in their half of the 5th by loading the bases with nobody out. Unlike Vancouver, the Hawks took advantage of their opportunity as Vogelbach walked with the bases loaded, Candelario singled, and Almora grounded out. The result was three more runs for Boise and a commanding 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th. The Hawks weren’t done there as they tacked on two more runs in the top of the 6th as Marco Hernandez laced a two-run single to give the Hawks a 7-1 lead, nothing could go wrong now.
Oh, how I wish that was true, as everyone should know by now, when the Boise Hawks are in Vancouver no lead is safe. The Canadians have come back two different times against Boise this year, they began their third comeback of the season in the bottom of the 6th. Jorge Flores greeted Jame Pugliese rather rudely as he ripped a two run double to bring the Canadians a little closer making the score 7-3. No big deal, a four run lead in the 7th inning should be easy enough to hang on to. The key word being should, as the Canadians made a huge statement, with some help from the Hawks in the 7th. Art Charles started the madness with a two-run homer to make it 7-5, and that was just the beginning. Hayden Simpson replaced Pugliese and made things worse as he walked the next guy then watched as Gioskar Amaya threw an inning ending ground out into left field to open the flood gates. When it was all said and done the Canadians scored seven times on four hits, two walks, two errors, and one wild pitch. A tired Hawks bunch was ambushed and had nothing left in them to make a comeback in this one, as they fell to the Canadians 10-7. The Hawks have to win the final two games of the series, and season or their 2012 will be over, the same situation they were in after game one of the East Division series against Yakima. Game two is tomorrow night in Boise, the Hawks have to forget this one and move on, I think they will.

8/25: Around the Cubs Minor League System
Saturday’s minor league recap.
It was a game of big innings early, until the ninth when the AZL Cubs walked off with another win, this time 8-7. Paul Blackburn started, but wasn’t at his best giving up three runs on four hits in three innings of work. Rafael Dolis and Jasvir Rakkar each pitched an inning allowing two runs a piece. Ethan Elias did a great job keeping the Giants at seven runs as pitched the next three innings allowing no runs on no hits, while walking two and striking out four. The good luck charm Steve Perakslis improved his record to 4-0 as he got the win after pitching a scoreless ninth. The Cubs had a lot of nice days offensively. Carlos Penalver and Yasiel Balaguert each had two hits and drove in two a piece. Ben Carhart was 2-for-6 with a walk off single and Shawon Dunston had one hit, a double and three RBIs. Trevor Gretzky and David Bote both contributed with two hits and combined two score three runs for the Cubs. Daniel Lockhart and Garrett Schlecht each had a hit and an RBI in the Cubs victory. The victory clinched a spot in the playoffs for the Cubs.
Boise got out to a quick start and held on to beat Vancouver 8-6. After a recent struggle Jeimer Candelario appears to have broken out as he went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Stephen Bruno stayed red-hot going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Dan Vogelbach also had two hits, including a double and an RBI. Wilson Contreras and Gioskar Amaya each had a hit with Contreras knocking in two and Amaya one. Albert Almora left the game early with an apparent injury, but I have no word yet as to what the problem was. Ian Dickson started, but did not factor in the decision as was only able to last 4.1 innings as he allowed four runs on seven hits. Hunter Ackerman did get the victory as he threw the next 2.2 innings giving up one run and striking out five. Eduardo Orozco got the ball to Nathan Dorris and Dorris closed out the win and the second half for Boise. With the victory Boise is the second half winners and are headed to the playoffs.
****
A three run fourth was enough for Joseph Zeller and the Cubs bullpen as they beat Wisconsin 3-2. Zeller pitched quite well giving up one run on seven hits in six innings. Sheldon McDonald pitched the next two innings allowing one run, but got the ball to Larry Suarez who notched his fifth save of the season striking out two in a scoreless ninth. Timothy Saunders had another nice night going 2-for-4 with a homer and a double. Chadd Krist also hit a home run, a two run shot in the fourth inning. Oliver Zapata had a hit, two walks, and two stolen bases and Zeke DeVoss also added a hit in the Chiefs win.
****
Daytona lost game one to Tampa 3-2. Although they only had three hits, they threatened late, but couldn’t finish. Ronald Torreyes, Elieser Bonne, and Vladimir Frias were the only Cubs to have hits on Saturday. Nelson Perez drove in the two Cubs runs in game one without the benefit of a hit. Eduardo Figueroa started, but took a no decision as didn’t give up a run in four inning, while striking out six. Matt Spencer took the loss as he really struggled with his command walking five and allowing all three of the Yankees runs to score in just 0.2 innings. Matt Iannazzo finished game one out throwing a scoreless 1.1 innings.
Daytona returned the favor in game two as Ryan Searle and staff only allowed three hits in a 4-1 win. Searle started and pitched pretty good going five innings allowing one run on three hits and striking out five. From there Jeff Lorick pitched a scoreless sixth and Scott Weismann notched his fourth save of the season throwing a perfect seventh. John Andreoli and Ronald Torreyes hit one-two in the order and set the table of the Cubs in this one. Torreyes was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI. John Andreoli was also 2-for-4 with a double, triple, and two runs scored. Rebel Ridling had two hits of his own and drove in one run and Nelson Perez drove in another run, again not having a hit. Javier Baez broke through with a double in the victory.
****
Mobile scored one in the ninth to tie it and got one in the 10th to beat Tennessee 4-3. Things have been better for Iowa as of late and Saturday was no different as they beat Oklahoma City 4-1. Ty’Relle Harris started and got the win pitching six strong innings. He allowed one run on four hits while striking out six. Miguel Socolovich and Jeff Beliveau each pitched a perfect frame to get the ball to Jairo Asencio who struck out two and pitched a scoreless ninth to record his fifth save of the season. The Cubs had a few nice nights offensively on Saturday starting with Diory Hernandez who had a home run and three RBIs. Dave Sappelt was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Matt Tolbert also had two hits with a run scored. Greg Rohan and Jeff Frazier each had two hits a piece with Frazier having two doubles and Rohan having one. It is good to see Iowa finishing the season strong.
It was an exciting night, Congrats to Boise Hawks and the AZL Cubs in clinching a playoff birth.
Thanks for Reading,
