Due to some technical difficulties I was not able to post each game separately last night like I usually do. Instead here is a recap of last nights events.
Yes, it took me awhile to spell that… Chris Rusin was awesome today, going 7 innings giving up two runs on six hits, what’s more impressive is he only struck out one guy. Anthony Rizzo was back to “normal” going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Josh Vitters might finally be living up to the expectations as he went 2-for-4 again today with an RBI double, and a run scored, his average is all the way up to .458. A lot of guys had good days, instead of listing all of them please enjoy the box score below. (more…)
Anthony Rizzo continues his assault on triple-A pitching Monday night going 3 for 3 including tow homers and three RBI’s in Iowa’s 10-6 victory. Adrian Cardenas and Josh Vitters both had two hits on the night as Iowa pounded out 12 in total. Not wanting to be left out, Iowa’s starting pitcher Travis Wood hit a two run homer to go along with his solid start on the mound. Wood gave up three runs on four hits over six innings of work, he only walked one and struck out six to earn the win.

With the I-Cubs trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the 8th inning Anthony Rizzo launched a game tying three-run homer, shortly after that the I-Cubs walked off in the ninth inning with the win, 6-5 over Round Rock. The Rizzo – Jackson connection continued to tear the cover off the ball Sunday afternoon. Jackson went 2-5 with an RBI double, and a run scored to go along with the previously mentioned Anthony Rizzo bomb. Jackson is hitting .438 so far this season, and Rizzo is hitting at a .375 clip. Jeff Beliveau turned in his second straight outstanding performance out of the bullpen going two innings, and striking out four guys.
Chris Rusin struggled in his 2012 debut with Iowa on Saturday Night giving up four runs on six hits over 5 and 1/3rd. Brett Jackson continuted his hot start going 2-4 with a double in the losing effort.
Casey Coleman got knocked around early in Iowa’s loss Friday night. Coleman was around the plate all night, just probably around it a little too much. He gave up four runs on five hits over five innings, he didn’t walk anyone and struck out five. The Iowa bullpen came in and did an adequate job keeping Round Rock scoreless over the next four innings. Ryan Rowland-Smith, and Jeff Beliveau each tossed a scoreless inning while Esmailin Caridad turned in two scoreless innings. Rizzo and Jackson were the stars again at the plate, Jackson chipped in with a triple, and Rizzo had two more hits in the 4-3 loss.
Randy Wells got the victory tonight, as he went a strong 6 innings for the Iowa Cubs in their opening day today. Iowa beat Round Rock 5-3.
