It really is becoming quite ridiculous, the Cubs refuse to give any at bats away and that has been the catalyst for one of the best starts in team History. On this night the Cubs walked a total of ten times, process that for a second, ten base runners without swinging the bat. Usually the Cubs reserve the panic inning until the mid innings but tonight they had it on full display in the first. Reds’ starter Alfredo Simon couldn’t make it out of the first as the Cubs manufactured their way to five runs after John Lackey struggled in the top half of the innings.
Speaking of Lackey, he was sharp after the rough first as he worked 6.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits while walking three and striking out seven. The performance pushed Lackey to 2-0 on the season despite a 5.68 ERA. When the Cubs weren’t talking walks they were spraying the ball all over the field as they registered eight hits, none longer than a Kris Bryant home run, his first of the season.
Loud noises! With the Cubs trailing 2-1 in the 8th, Kris Bryant absolutely crushed a 3-2 pitch off the video board in left field. That had to be the farthest home run of the season, it was bound to happen, and man that was fun.
Kris Bryant got the Cubs on the board early in this one as he destroyed a hanging curveball way out of Petco Park in the first. Such an effortless display of power, wow.
Effortless, just puts the bat on the ball, and it’s gone. Sure the wind is blowing out, but that shows you what kind of power that Kris Bryant has, wow.
You could have been making a baloney sandwich in the other room and that noise would tell you everything you needed to know, BOOM! Kris Bryant went 3-for-4 tonight with this dinger, a triple, and a walk. That’s three homers in the last four games for Bryant, look out.
Of course Kris Bryant hit a dinger into the brand new bleachers on their opening night. BOOM!
Sorry Iowa fans, Kris Bryant is on his way to Chicago. But before he departed, he crushed his third dinger of the season, boom!
I think Kris Bryant redefined towering shot, that was really high, and really gone. Bryant had a huge game, the dinger was the exclamation point.
