Kane County 4-22-14

  • Yasiel Balaguert was productive again today, he went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run scored, and an RBI, his 15th of the season.
  • David Bote joined in on the double fun as well, he was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.

Daytona 4-22-14

Full Box Score

2014 has been frustrating for Daytona, they took out a seasons worth of frustration on the baseball tonight.  The D-Cubs pounded out seventeen hits while scoring eighteen runs to embarrass Clearwater 18-5, I’m sure that felt good.

At the Plate:

  • Pin-Chieh Chen is turning into a weapon out of that lead-off spot, he was 4-for-5 with a walk, three RBI’s, two triples, a double, and four runs scored, yikes.
  • Tim Saunders was solid yet again, he went 2-for-2 with two doubles, a walk, three RBI’s, and a run scored.
  • Bijan Rademacher never stops hitting, he was 2-for-5 with two doubles, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored, he’s hitting .365 on the season.
  • Rock Shoulders went insane today, he was 3-for-5 with a grand slam, a walk, two doubles, four RBI’s, and four runs scored.
  • Gioskar Amaya made his long awaited return to the lineup tonight, and was awesome.  Amaya went 3-for-4 with a walk, an RBI, and four runs scored.
  • Marco Hernandez made some noise from the nine spot, he was 2-for-5 with a triple, three RBI’s, and a run scored.

On the Mound:

  • Taylor Scott was the beneficiary of the offensive onslaught tonight, as he picked up his second win of the season.  Scott worked 5.1 innings, giving up three runs, on earned, on four hits, while walking three, and striking out one.
  • Stephen Perakslis was really good out of the pen, he worked 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit, while striking out three.
  • Austin Reed got mop up duty in this one, he worked two innings, giving up two runs on four hits, while walking one, and striking out two.

Smokies 4-22-14

Full Box Score

Pierce Johnson made his long awaited Double A debut tonight, and things were going just fine until the 5th inning.  The Barons scored eight times to erase a 1-0 deficit on their way to crushing the Smokies 14-3.

At the Plate:

  • John Andreoli had another solid game out of the lead-off spot, he went 2-for-3 with two walks.
  • Kris Bryant is rolling, he was 3-for-5 with a double, and a run scored in the win.  He has now reached base in eighteen straight games, and is hitting .311 on the season.
  • Taylor Davis was good from the nine spot, he went 2-for-4 with two RBI’s, he’s hitting .429 on the season.

On the Mound:

  • Pierce Johnson made his 2014 debut, and it had some good, and some bad.  Johnson worked four innings, giving up three runs on four hits, while walking four (bad), and striking out five.  I think he was a little too amped up for this start, the command was spotty at best.
  • Ryan Searle wasn’t much better out of the pen as he worked three innings, giving up six runs on six hits, while walking one, and striking out three.
  • Jeff Lorick suffered the same fate as the others, he worked one inning, giving up five runs, three earned, on three hits, while walking two.

Iowa 4-18-14

Full Box Score

The Zephyrs got a lead-off home run from Josh Rodrgiuez, and that was it, unfortunately that was it for both teams.  The very first hitter of the game decided this one as New Orleans squeaked by Iowa, 1-0.

At the Plate:

  • Chris Valaika had one of the two hits on the night for Iowa, he went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts.
  • Logan Watkins, who didn’t start tonight, had the other hit for Iowa.  He went 1-for-1 off the bench, the I-Cubs were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.  Just one of those nights.

On the Mound:

  • Tsuyoshi Wada was brilliant, and almost untouchable for the second straight outing, unfortunately he took the loss in this one.  Wada worked eight innings, giving up one run on three hits, while walking one, and striking out five.
  • Marcus Hatley continued his spotless work out of the pen, as he worked a scoreless inning, giving up one hit in the process.

Smokies 4-18-14

Full Box Score

Thud.  Such a tough loss for the Smokies as they held a precarious 2-0 lead heading to the ninth, that’s when Jackson scored five times to steal a win right out from under Tennessee.  Tough break for Ivan Pineyro who was stellar in this one, but walks away with a no decision.

At the Plate:

  • John Andreoli is starting to swing the bat better, he went 1-for-4 with a walk, a double, a stolen base, and a run scored.
  • Kris Bryant continues to mash the baseball, he was 2-for-4 with his fourth home run of the season, an RBI, and a run scored.
  • Jeudy Valdez had another solid game in this one, he went 2-for-4 from the nine spot in the order.

On the Mound:

  • Ivan Pineyro did everything he could to get the win tonight, he worked 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits, while walking one, and striking out eight.
  • Ryan Searle came on in relief, and was good, until the ninth.  Searle worked 2.1 innings, giving up five runs on five hits, while walking two, he took the loss.

Kane County 4-18-14

Full Box Score

That other thud you heard tonight was the Kane County seven game winning streak coming to a crashing halt.  It was a good run though, and there really wasn’t much doubt about tonight as the Cougars were chasing all night long, and just couldn’t find their way back in it.

At the Plate:

  • Jacob Hannemann went 1-for-4 with a strikeout from the lead-off spot tonight.
  • Carlos Penalver had a solid game, he went 1-for-2 with two walks in the loss.
  • Daniel Canela, Danny Lockhart, and Shawon Dunston all went 1-for-3 with a single.

On the Mound:

  • Juan Paniagua got the start tonight, and struggled with his command right off the hop.  Paniagua worked five innings, giving up five runs on six hits, while walking four, and striking out one.
  • Justin Amlung struggled mightily out of the pen, he worked just 1.2 innings, giving up four runs on five hits, while walking one.
  • Josh Davis was able to calm things down but it was too little too late.  Davis worked 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit, and striking out one.

Iowa 4-12-14

Full Box Score

At the Plate:

For the second straight night the Iowa Cubs went to battle without Javier Baez (sore back), and tonight they found a way to come out on top.  Brett Jackson got an opportunity to lead off, and did a number of good things, he went 1-for-3 with two walks (Cubs Way), an RBI, and was caught stealing.  Arismendy Alcantara was also a part of the offensive attack, he went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored in the win.  Matt Szczur didn’t start this one but came up with a huge hit in the ninth, a two run single to give the I-Cubs some breathing room.

On the Mound:

Pure domination from Tsuyoshi Wada tonight as he improved to 2-0 on the season.  Wada embarrassed the Cardinals lineup, he worked 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits while walking none, and striking out ten…ten!  Marcus Hatley worked 1.1 scoreless innings out of the pen, and Brian Schlitter, who was sent to Iowa earlier today worked a scoreless frame to close this one out.

Smokies 4-12-14

Full Box Score

At the Plate:

The Smokies brought their bats to this one as they pounded out ten hits en route to scoring five times as the beat the Lookouts 5-1.  Zeke DeVoss was a factor out of the lead-off spot, he went 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk, a stolen base, two RBI’s, and a run scored.  Kris Bryant made some noise again tonight, he was 2-for-4 with a double, his third home run of the season, an RBI, and a run scored.  Rafael Lopez was also a force in this one, he went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, and a run scored.

On the Mound:

Ivan Pineyro got the start tonight, and was solid once again as he worked five innings, giving up one run on three hits, while walking one, and striking out four.  Ryan Searle got the win in relief as he was outstanding, Searle worked two scoreless innings, giving up one hit, while striking out three.  Frank Batista, and Jeffery Lorick combined to work the last two innings without giving up a run while striking out three.

Daytona 4-12-14

Full Box Score

At the Plate:

A win!  Daytona finally ended the night in the win column thanks to some solid pitching, and some offensive thunder.  It was the Albert Almora show, and what else is new really?  Almora was 2-for-5 with a double, his first home run of the season, three RBI’s, a stolen base, and two runs scored.  Dan Vogelbach joined the fun tonight, he was 1-for-4 with two RBI’s, maybe this will get him going.  Marco Hernandez made things happen from the nine spot as he was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and a run scored in the win.

On the Mound:

Rob Zastryzny picked up his first win of the season tonight as he was all over the strike zone.  Zastryzny worked 5.2 strong innings, giving up one run on seven hits, while walking one, and striking out five.  Zach Cates was stellar out of the pen as worked two scoreless innings, giving up two hits while striking out two.  Stephen Perakslis worked a scoreless ninth to close this one out.  Solid win for Daytona, maybe they will get on a nice roll here.

Kane County 4-12-14

Full Box Score

At the Plate:

A wild win for the Cougars as they almost blew two different four run leads, but they were able to hold on to move their record to 6-3 on the season.  Carlos Penalver did the job from the top of the order tonight as he was 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base, and three (!) runs scored.  Yasiel Balaguert can carry a team when he gets hot, he’s hot right now, he went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and a run scored, he has ten RBI’s on the season now.  Another guy win ten RBI’s is Jacob Rogers, he went off tonight, he was 2-for-4 with a double, his second home run of the season, four RBI’s, and a run scored.  Not to be left out, David Bote also delivered, he was 2-for-4 with his first home run of the season, two RBI’s, and a run scored.

On the Mound:

Dicey, but effective tonight.  Juan Paniagua got the start and struggled with his command, he worked four innings, giving up one run on two hits, while walking four (see?), and striking out six.  Gerardo Concepcion continues to make a comeback this year as he worked two scoreless innings, giving up two hits, while walking one, and striking out two.  Scott Frazier struggled, that right there is an understatement.  Frazier did not register an out, did not give up a hit, but walked all three batters he faced en route to giving up three runs, ouch.  Josh Davis got knocked around a bit, but was decent, he worked two innings, giving up one run on four hits.  Tyler Bremer closed this one out, but it wasn’t without some adventure, he worked one inning, giving up three runs on two hits, while walking one, and striking out two… whew.

Daytona 4-7-14

Full Box Score

At The Plate:

The bats were making noise in the early going, but the production, and the lead disappeared in this one, as Daytona dropped a close one to Brevard County, 5-4.  Albert Almora is settling into a grove after starting the season slowly, he was 1-for-4 with a run scored in this one, and is now hitting .316 on the season.  Dan Vogelbach is still sluggish with the bat, but had a decent game tonight, he went 1-for-3 with a walk.  One guy who has been locked in at the plate is Jeimer Candelario, he was 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, a run scored, and committed two errors (oops).  The man with the “best name in the minors” had a solid game, Rock Shoulders was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI’s, and a run scored.

On The Mound:

Exciting night for the Cubs organization as Rob Zastryznyy made his Daytona debut tonight, and had moments of brilliance in the no decision.  Zastryzny worked four innings, giving up four runs on six hits, while walking two, and striking out six.  The D-Cubs bullpen was solid once again in this one as the quartet of Yao-Lin Wang, Zach Cates, Arodys Vizcaino, and Austin Reed combined to work five innings only yielding one unearned run which proved to be the difference tonight.

Tennessee 4-7-14

Full Box Score

At The Plate:

Another light night at the dish for the Smokies as they fell to Pensacola for the fourth time in five games, 3-2.  Dustin Geiger has had a solid start to 2014, especially in the power department, Geiger was 2-for-4 with his second home run of the season, an RBI, and a run scored.  Jeudy Valdez was the only other Tennessee player to make a difference with the bat, he went 2-for-3 with a double, and an RBI in the loss.

On The Mound:

It wasn’t a bad night at all for Tennessee pitching, especially out of the bullpen, still not good enough for a win.  Matt Loosen got the start tonight, he worked five innings, giving up three runs on six hits, while walking three and striking out two.  Ryan Searle, Hunter Cervenka, and Tony Zych combined to toss three scoreless, hit-less innings out of the pen, they didn’t even walk anyone, and struck out five.

Iowa 4-7-14

Full Box Score

At The Plate:

Not a whole lot going on for the Iowa hitters, but they made the most of their opportunities and beat Nashville 4-1.  Brett Jackson, who has had a rough start to the season, had a tremendous game.  B-Jax was 2-for-2 with a triple, an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.  As a team, the Iowa Cubs had four stolen bases in this one, saw an opportunity and exploited it.  Christian Villanueva had the big hit in this one, he was 1-for-4 with his first home run of the season, three RBI’s, and a run scored.

On The Mound:

All sorts of good things from the Iowa Cubs staff tonight.  Tsuyoshi Wada started tonight, and took home the win, he worked 6.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits, while walking one, and striking out eight.  Working as the setup man, Neil Ramirez worked 1.1 scoreless innings, he didn’t walk anyone, and struck out two.  Blake Parker worked the ninth for the save, he flirted with danger but got the job done, he worked a scoreless inning, giving up two hits, and striking out two.

Kane County 4-3-2014

Full Box Score

At The Plate:

The Cougars brought their bats with them in the opener as they pounded Quad Cities pitching to the tune of eight runs on eleven hits.  Jake Hannemann did a nice job out of the lead-off spot tonight, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored.  DH for the evening, Ben Carhart was all over the base paths, Carhart was 1-for-2 with three walks (CUBS WAY!), an RBI, and three runs scored.  Dr. Doubles, I mean, Yasiel Balaguert was locked in tonight, he went 4-for-4 with three doubles, and two RBI’s.  The ninth spot in the order also got a spark tonight, Carlos Penalver went 3-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases, and a run scored.

On The Mound:

All in all, a pretty solid effort from the Kane County staff tonight.  2012 first round draft pick Paul Blackburn made his single A debut tonight, and it was hit and miss.  Blackburn worked four innings, giving up four runs on nine hits (not so good), while walking none (good), and striking out three.  The pen was tremendous, Nathan Dorris, James Pugliese, and Jose Arias all had scoreless appearances.  Dorris got the win, as he worked two innings giving up one hit, while walking one and striking out three.

Daytona 4-3-2014

Full Box Score

At The Plate:

The Daytona Cubs mirrored the Major League club in this one as they dropped a tough 1-0 game to the Manatees.  The D-Cubs could only manage five hits while getting shut out by a quartet of Brevard County pitchers.  Dan Vogelbach was one of the few Cubs to register a hit, he was 1-for-3 in the loss.  Jeimer Candelario, and Marco Hernandez also finished the night going 1-for-3 with a single.  Gioskar Amaya was seeing the ball the best as he went 2-for-2 with a stolen base, and a walk.

On The Mound:

Nothing but good things from the Daytona staff in this one, unfortunately it wasn’t good enough.  Felix Pena got the opening day start and was great, he worked six innings giving up one run on three hits, while walking one and striking out three.  Zach Cates, and Arodys Vizcaino each worked a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.

Tennessee 4-3-14

Full Box Score

At The Plate:

Grumble, grumble, grumble.  A tough opening day loss for the Smokies as they built a 5-0 lead early, then lost it late.  Zeke DeVoss, a personal favorite, went 2-for-5 out of the lead-off spot with a triple, and an RBI.  Kris Bryant!  Bryant, making his AA debut tonight went 1-for-3 with his first home run of the season, a walk, an RBI, a stolen base, and two runs scored.  Fun fact here, Bryant went deep off Reds starter Mat Latos who was making a rehab start, then Bryant swung at a 3-0 pitch later in the game, then Latos hit him, sucks getting torched in AA doesn’t it, Mat?  Jorge Soler was 1-for-1 with a double in this one, he left early, and I think that was the plan ahead of time as he is coming back from a couple of injuries.

On The Mound:

Tough go of it for the Smokies pitching in this one as they seemed to lose their command as a group.  Dae-Eun Rhee got the start and was solid early, then the plate started jumping around on him.  Rhee worked four innings giving up three runs, two earned, on two hits while walking four, and striking out four.  Ryan Searle took over and was actually pretty good, he worked three innings giving up one run on one hit, while walking three, and striking out five.  Tony Zych took the loss in this one as he worked one inning, giving up two runs on five hits, he didn’t walk or strikeout anyone.

Iowa 4-3-2014

Full Box Score

At The Plate:

Not a lot went right tonight for the Iowa Cubs as they had trouble scoring, and keeping Memphis from scoring.  Javier Baez made his triple A debut tonight, going 0-for-3 with a walk, and an error.  A rededicated Josh Vitters has a solid night, he went 2-for-4 with his first home run of the season, an RBI, and a run scored.  Christian Villanueva, the new Iowa third baseman went 2-for-4 with a double, and a run scored in the loss.

On The Mound:

Not so good.  Chris Rusin, who just lost out to Carlos Villanueva for the number five start spot in Chicago, struggled.  Rusin worked 3.2 innings, giving up five runs on six hits, while walking four, and striking out two.  Yoanner Negrin was lights out tonight, he worked 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit, walking none, and striking out four, stellar.  Casey Coleman, yes, he’s still here, wasn’t sharp, he worked one inning, giving up five runs, four earned, on four hits while walking two, and striking out one.  Mop up duty belonged to Marcus Hatley, and he did a fine job, working one scoreless innings while striking out two.

Minor Matters – April 21, 2013 (Cubs Minor League Recaps)

Iowa 4-21 lineFull Box Score

At The Plate – Not much happening for the Cubs offense in this one as they lost a 1-0 heart breaker to the Redbirds.  The Cubs could only manage six hits, all singles in the loss.  Brent Lillibridge was 1-for-4, as was Ryan Sweeney, and Donnie Murphy.  Darnell McDonald, Brian Bogusevic, and J.C. Boscan were each 1-for-3 in the loss.

On The Mound – The Cubs pitching did all they could and then some in this one, but still couldn’t get a victory.  Drew Carpenter got the start and was solid despite having some command issues.  Carpenter worked 5.2 scoreless innings giving up two hits while walking five and striking out six.  Hisanori Takahashi worked 1.1 scoreless innings with a strikeout.  Yoanner Negrin finally gave up a run, unfortunately that’s all it took to lose this one.  Negrin went 1.2 innings, he gave up one run on two hits while walking one and striking out two, his ERA “sky-rocketed” to 0.79 on the season.

Smokies 4-21 lineFull Box Score

At The Plate – The Smokies looked to be well on their way to another win after a four run second inning, then they weren’t.  Matt Szczur had another solid day going 1-for-4 with two walks, two RBI’s, and a run scored.  Rubi Silva was 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, a run scored, a caught stealing, and an outfield assist, busy day.  Anthony Giansanti finally has returned to action and had a solid day going 2-for-2 with a walk, a double, and a run scored.

On The Mound – A mixed bag from the Smokies pitchers, and a very costly error by Ronald Torreyes didn’t help.  Alberto Cabrera got the start and was average going 5.1 innings giving up four runs on five hits while walking four and striking out one.  Marcus Hatley was solid out of the pen going 1.2 scoreless innings while giving up one hit and striking out one.  Kevin Rhoderick continues to struggle, he worked an inning giving up two runs on four hits whiles striking out one.  Trey McNutt was outstanding, going two scoreless innings while striking out one.  Tony Zych was the hard luck loser, he worked an inning and gave up three runs, all unearned, on one hit while walking one.

Daytona 4-21 lineFull Box Score

At The Plate – Not a lot to cheer about in this one as the D-Cubs did their best Major League Cubs impersonation in this one.  Daytona could only manage two hits in this one, singles by Timothy Saunders and Jorge Soler.  They did manage to earn three walks, but were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.

On The Mound – Not much better here for the D-Cubs.  Ryan Searle got the start and got roughed up again.  Searle went four innings giving up five runs on six hits while walking two and striking out four.  Austin Reed wasn’t much better out of the pen going two innings giving up four runs, two unearned, on six hits while striking out two.  David Cales worked two scoreless innings giving up one hit and striking out three, the lone bright spot of the day.

Kane County 4-21 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate - Crazy ballgame yesterday as the Cougars built a 4-0 lead going into the 6th inning, then things got weird.  The Chiefs scored six times in the top of the 6th to take a 6-4 lead, then the Cougars scored three times in the bottom half to go back in front and that’s how it ended.  Pin-Chieh Chen got a chance to lead-off in this one and delivered going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI’s, and a run scored.  Rock Shoulders, or the guy who rarely makes an out, was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, he’s hitting .424 on the season, yikes.  Chadd Krist was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and a run scored.  Trey Martin finally busted out with the bat, and made a tremendous catch in CF as well, he was 3-for-4 with a stolen base, an RBI, a double, and two runs scored.  Fun fact, Daniel Vogelbach had a stolen base today, the guy is rather athletic for his size.

On The Mound –  Kane County only used two pitchers in this one, rather rare given the fact that six runs were given up, but I guess that’s what happens when it’s all in one inning.  Felix Pena got the start at went 5.2 innings giving up five runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two.  Ian Dickson got the win coming out of the pen going 3.1 innings giving up on run on four hits while striking out three.

Minor Matters – April 16, 2013 (Cubs Minor League Recaps)

Iowa 4-16 lineFull Box Score

At The Plate – You wouldn’t know it by the hit totals, but the I-Cubs won this one rather handily 4-3.  Iowa only had three hits, and gave up ten, but that’s not what decides games.  Ty Wright was 1-for-4 with a run scored.  Ryan Sweeney had one of the other hits and it was a big one, he was 1-for-3 with a walk, a triple, and an RBI.  J.C. Boscan had the biggest hit of the day as he was 1-for-3 with a double, and two RBI’s, definitely an odd game at the plate, but drawing four walks definitely helped.

On The Mound –  Plenty of hits given up by the Cubs staff, but they didn’t walk anyone, and that was a huge reason they pulled this one out.  Brooks Raley had a tremendous outing getting his first win of the season going six scoreless innings giving up six hits, and striking out seven.  Yoanner Negrin continues to be untouchable out of the pen, he worked two scoreless innings only giving up two hits.  Cory Wade worked the ninth and gave up one run on two hits while striking out two.

Smokies 4-16 lineFull Box Score

At The Plate – A back and forth game in Huntsville ended with the Smokies hanging on to win 4-3 over the Stars.  Matt Szczur continues to be productive out of the lead-off spot, he went 2-for-3 with a home run, a stolen base, a caught stealing, an RBI, and a run scored.  Justin Bour also joined in on the fun going 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI, and a run scored.  Rubi Silva has been scorching hot all year and it was no different last night, he was 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored, he’s hitting .405 on the season now.

On The MoundAlberto Cabrera got the start and his second win of the season as he went six innings giving up two runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out five.  A.J. Morris was solid out of the pen going two scoreless, and hitless innings while striking out three.  Frank Batista worked the ninth for his second save, although he made it exciting, he worked one inning giving up one run on one hit while walking one.

Daytona 4-16 lineFull Box Score

At The Plate – All sorts of offense from Daytona but it wasn’t nearly enough in this one.  Seven out of the nine players in the lineup had at least one hit.  John Andreoli was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, two stolen bases, and one run scored.  Javy Baez connected on his second homer of the season, he finished the day 1-for-5 with an RBI, a stolen base, and two runs scored.  Stephen Bruno was 2-for-2 with two walks with a double, and a run scored.  Dustin Geiger continues to stay hot going 2-for-3 with an RBI, and a run scored, he’s now hitting .310 on the season.

On The Mound – I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen anything like this in just nine innings.  The D-Cubs staff gave up fifteen runs, that was low in my opinion seeing that they gave up twenty-seven hits, twenty-seven!  Ryan Searle has been great this year, not last night, he went 4.2 innings giving up seven runs on fifteen(!) hits while striking out five, his ERA sits at 4.85 right now, a small miracle given how many runs he gave up.  Hunter Cervenka and Luis Liria gave up a combined seven runs in 2.1 innings.  Taylor Davis, a catcher, worked one inning giving up one run on four hits.

Kane County 4-16 line game 1Full Box Score

On The Mound –  Errors got the best of the Cougars early on and it showed in the pitching staff”s numbers.  Jose Arias got the start and went four innings giving up three runs, all unearned, on four hits while walking three and striking out three.  Jeffry Antigua was great out of the pen and was rewarded with his first win of the season.  Antigue went three scoreless innings giving up two hits while walking one and striking out three.

Daytona 4-10 lineFull Box Score

At The Plate – Well, this one will be talked about for one thing, the incident involving Soler, I wrote about it earlier, you can read about it here, just going to recap the game now.  Crazy game not counting fights as Daytona blew a two-run lead in the ninth and ended up losing by 5 in eleven.  Zeke DeVoss had another solid night at the top of the lineup going 2-for-6 with a home run, an RBI, and a run scored.  John Andreoli stayed red-hot going 3-for-6 with a double, he’s now hitting .478 on the season.  Jorge Soler did some good work with the bat…at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a run scored.  Stephen Bruno, Ben Carhart, and Taiwan Easterling all had two hits in this one.  Dustin Geiger and Easterling both went deep for their first home run of the season.

On The Mound – Some good, some really bad for the D-Cubs.  Ben Wells got the start and struggled with his command which cut his outing short.  Wells went four innings giving up four runs, three earned, on seven hits while walking four and not striking out anyone.  Austin Reed didn’t fare much better as he could only go one-third of an inning giving up three runs on two hits while walking two.  Ryan Searle was outstanding again going 3.2 innings giving up no runs on one hit while walking one and striking out four.  Luis Liria not only got the blown save but the loss as well as he went 2.2 innings giving up seven runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out three.

Kane County 4-10 lineFull Box Score

At The Plate – The Cougars had an awesome approach at the plate today as they walked eight times, unfortunately they were only 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.  Jeimer Candelario didn’t have a hit in this one but he was able to walk three times.  Daniel Vogelbach was 1-for-3 with a walk, and an RBI.  Another day, another two hits for Rock Shoulders, he went 2-for-5 and is now hitting .467 on the season.  Bijan Rademacher was 1-for-2 with two walks, and two runs scored in the loss.  Trey Martin found some production today going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two RBI’s.

On The Mound – Remember how I mentioned how great the Cougars approach was because of the eight walks?  Well Cougars pitching issued ten free passes, not good.  Tayler Scott got the start and went two innings giving up four runs on three hits while walking five, he was slapped with the loss.  Nathan Dorris was outstanding in this one going four scoreless innings giving up only one hit and striking out five.  Steve Perakslis couldn’t keep things close as he went two innings giving up five runs on five hits while walking two and striking out three.  I mentioned Bijan Rademacher already, well he got to pitch as well, he worked one inning giving up one run, unearned, on no hits while walking three, it was that kind of day.

What a weird day, thanks for reading,
