Kane County Cougars (1991 - Pres)

Kane County 7-6 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Not much happening for the Cougars at the plate in this one as they were shut out and could only manage three hits the whole night.  Albert Almora was 1-for-2 in the loss and also had to leave the game early with an apparent leg/hamstring injury, he briefly stayed in the game but came out the next inning.  Marco Hernandez and Carlos Escobar each had one hit, all three Cougars hits were singles.

On The MoundJose Rosario got the start and also the loss, his fifth of the season as he was roughed up.  Rosario worked five innings giving up five runs on six hits while walking four (not good) and striking out one.  Sheldon McDonald was outstanding in relief going three scoreless innings giving up one hit while striking out three.  Michael Hamann worked one inning out of the pen and got into some trouble before escaping unscathed, he worked one scoreless inning giving up one hit while walking one and striking out one.

Daytona 7-6 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Daytona was cruising in this one as they led 6-0 into the bottom of the eighth inning, that’s when thing got uncomfortable.  Dunedin put five runs on the board in the bottom of the eighth to get within one, luckily the D-Cubs stopped the bleeding and held on to win 6-5.  Zeke DeVoss was productive out of the lead off spot going 3-for-5 with three RBI’s.  Ben Carhart continues his solid 2013 as he went 3-for-5 with two RBI’s, he’s now hitting .277 on the season with 38 RBI’s.  Bijan Rademacher was 2-for-4 with two doubles, and an RBI, those are his first two doubles since being called up to Daytona (17 AB).  Pin-Chieh Chen was 1-for-2 with two walks (Cubs Way!), a triple, and two runs scored.

On The MoundPierce Johnson got the start in this one and picked up his first win with Daytona in his third start.  Johnson worked five scoreless innings giving up five hits while walking one and striking out five.  Austin Reed was solid out of the pen as he worked two scoreless innings giving up one hit and walking one.  Jeffrey Lorick doesn’t have many bad games, this was one of them as he worked one inning giving up five runs on four hits while walking one and striking out two.  Dayan Diaz took over for Lorick and was barely able to hang on for the save which was the his first of the season.  Diaz worked one scoreless inning giving up three hits before escaping some big time trouble.

At The Plate – The Smokies fell behind quickly in this one and could never recover as they were trailing 7-1 by the bottom of the fourth en route to an 8-2 defeat.  Not much going offensively but the big news from the day and the game was the debut of Javier Baez, he went 1-for-4 with his first AA home run on his first AA swing of that bat.  Christian Villanueva has put together a pretty decent season so far, he was 1-for-4 with his eleventh home run of the year, and his forty-second RBI.  Rubi Silva had a solid game going 2-for-4 with two singles, he’s now hitting .264 on the season.

On The MoundAustin Kirk got the start for the Smokies and had a rough go of it as he suffered his third loss of the season.  Kirk worked two innings giving up six runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out two.  Yeiper Castillo was outstanding out of the pen going five innings giving up one run on four hits while walking three and striking out four.  Kevin Rhoderick struggled with his command again in this one, he worked two innings giving up one run on one hit while walking three (the command thing).

At The Plate – Not a great day all around for Iowa as they lost both ends of the doubleheader to Albuquerque.  Logan Watkins was solid in game one going 2-for-4 with an RBI, and a walk, he also made his ninth error of the season.  Junior Lake continues his solid 2013 going 1-for-3 with two walks (Cubs Way!) in game one, he’s now hitting .319 on the season.  The Cubs worked six walks in game one (good!) however they were 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position (bad!).  Game two saw much of the same as the Cubs worked four walks, but could only manage five hits, and were 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

On The MoundJake Arrieta made his Cubs debut in game one and was only able to work one inning before the rains came.  Arrieta struggled with his command as he gave up one run on one hit while walking two and striking out two in his inning of work.  Esmailin Caridad took over and also took the loss as he went three innings giving up two runs, one earned, while walking one and striking out two.  In game two Barret Loux was outstanding but still wound up on the losing end as the Cubs couldn’t muster any offense.  Loux went six innings giving up one run on four hits while walking four and striking out six.

At The Plate – The Hawks were able to pound out ten hits in this one but couldn’t push across any runs except for in the third when they scored three times.  Daniel Lockhart had a solid game, minus one error, he was 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Yasiel Balaguert was 1-for-3 with a walk, and a run scored, he’s now hitting .272 on the season.  Jacob Rogers was the offense in this one as he was 2-for-4 with his third home run of the season, three RBI’s, and a run scored.  The Hawks only had five chances with runners in scoring position despite having ten hits, they finished the game going 2-for-5.

On The MoundJames Pugliese was finally roughed up, he worked five innings giving up five runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out six.  Scott Frazier was solid out of the pen going two scoreless innings giving up one hit while walking one and striking out one.  Zack Godley, and Matt Iannazzo each worked a scoreless inning in relief to keep the Hawks in the game during the late innings.

Iowa 6-1 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Rough one for the Iowa Cubs as they built a 6-1 lead by the third inning and ended up losing 7-6 in thirteen innings, what’s worse is they gave up two runs in the ninth to let a win get away.  Brett Jackson was 1-for-5 with a walk, third home run of the season, an RBI, and two runs scored.  Brent Lillibridge had a great game going 4-for-6 with his fourth double of the season, an RBI, and a run scored.  Ian Stewart played!  He also had a decent day going 1-for-3 with his fifth double of the season, and two RBI’s.

On The Mound – Weird night for the Iowa pitching as they missed a lot of bats, and found a lot of them too.  Guillermo Moscoso was beat up but did alright I guess, he worked 5.2 innings giving up four runs, three earned, on seven hits while walking two and striking out ten (see?).  Hisanori Takahashi worked two-thirds of an inning, he walking one and struck out one.  Casey Coleman is quietly settling in at Iowa, he worked 1.2 scoreless innings while striking out two.  Eduardo Sanchez is officially a Cub, he worked the ninth inning giving up two runs on two hits while walking one and striking out one to register the blown save.  Marcus Hatley was recently promoted to Iowa from Tennessee and had his best outing tonight; he worked two scoreless innings giving up one hit while striking out three.  Jeffry Antigua suffered the loss in this one but didn’t pitch poorly, he worked two innings giving up one run on three hits while walking one and striking out four.

Smokies 6-1 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – The Smokies got knocked around pretty good in this one as the Barons built a 5-0 lead en route to cruising to a 9-3 victory.  Matt Szczur did his thing at the top of the lineup going 1-for-2 with three walks (CUBS WAY!), and his fourteenth stolen base of the season.  Arismendy Alcantara, or as I like to call him “Scoresheet” was 1-for-3 with a walk, his ninth home run of the season, and two runs scored.  Christian Villanueva provided some pop in this one as well going 1-for-4 with his fourth home run of the season, two RBI’s, and a run scored.

On The Mound – Aside from Matt Loosen the Smokies pitching wasn’t half bad, unfortunately Loosen started this one.  Loosen took his second loss of the season after going 5.1 innings giving up eight runs, four earned, on six hits while walking four and striking out three.  Frank Batista was solid out of the pen going 1.2 scoreless innings giving up three hits while striking out one.  Trey McNutt worked an inning giving up one run on two hits while walking one, if McNutt can harness his stuff and cut down on the walks his ERA will dwindle as well.

Daytona 6-1 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Offensive explosion time for Daytona as they pounded out twenty hits, and scored fourteen runs beating Brevard County 14-5.  This might be the longest “at the plate” recap that I write all year, and really, I’m okay with that.  Ben Carhart was fantastic today, going 3-for-6 with two doubles giving him fourteen on the season, two RBI’s, and two runs scored.  Javier Baez won the night, end of discussion, that’s it; he was 5-for-6 with three doubles, his ninth home run of the season, SIX RBI’s (ZOMG!), and three runs scored, wow.  Jorge Soler also had a solid night going 2-for-5 with his eighth home run of the season, two RBI’s, and two runs scored.  Dustin Geiger was slugging as well going 2-for-5 with two doubles, a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored.  Chadd Krist was also productive in this one going 2-for-3 with his sixth double of the season, and three RBI’s.  Wes Darvill and Taylor Davis contributed as well, with Darvill having three hits, and Davis adding two.

On The MoundP.J. Francescon found some of his 2012 magic in this one, helps having a ginormous lead, but it was nice to see him have a nice outing.  He worked six innings giving up one run on five hits while striking out six, with no walks (that’s important).  Austin Reed was roughed up a bit out of the pen as he worked two innings giving up three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out three.  Sheldon McDonald closed the door in this one, he worked one inning giving up one run on one hit while walking one and striking out one.

Kane County 6-1 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Nightmarish night for the floundering Cougars as they were obliterated by the Kernels 15-2, yes, a team named after corn scored fifteen runs tonight (they are good, I know).  Nice to see Albert Almora in the lineup and healthy after a hamstring scare, he was 2-for-4 with a run scored; he’s now hitting .444 on the season.  Jeimer Candelario was 2-for-4 with two singles, kind of shocked that he didn’t hit any doubles in this one.  The Cougars could only manage seven hits and two runs tonight as their entire lineup is struggling at the same time, which usually results in losses.

On The Mound – Taylor Scott isn’t used to being roughed up, but he didn’t have it tonight.  Scott suffered his second loss of the season as he worked four innings giving up seven runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out four.  Ian Dickson wasn’t much better, he worked three innings giving up five runs on four hits while walking five (NO!), and striking out two.  Nathan Dorris was solid in this one, working one scoreless inning giving up one hit; his ERA is now 2.78 on the season.  David Bote, the second baseman, worked the ninth inning and well, looked like a second baseman pitching.  Bote gave up three runs on three hits while walking two in his inning of work.

Iowa 5-23 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – The Cubs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and that’s all they would need in this one, they tacked on two more to take a 4-0 and that’s how it ended.  Logan Watkins had a good day from the leadoff spot going 2-for-4 with his fourth home run of the season, two RBI’s, and one run scored.  Dave Sappelt was 2-for-3 with a walk, and an RBI, he also had a caught stealing, he’s now hitting .308 since his demotion to Iowa.  Josh Vitters had a solid day as it was good to see him back in the lineup, he was 2-for-3 with a walk, and a run scored.

On The MoundChris Rusin was outstanding in this one to earn his third win of the season against four losses, despite a solid 3.88 ERA.  Rusin went six scoreless innings giving up six hits while walking two and striking out four.  Yoanner Negrin was solid per usual going two scoreless innings giving up one hit while striking out two.  Eduardo Sanchez made his organizational debut and was good going one scoreless inning while walking one and striking out two.

Smokies 5-23 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – The Smokies couldn’t get much going offensively but they didn’t need to in order to get the win, they only managed four hits and two runs in the 2-0 victory.  Arismendy Alcantara was 1-for-2 with two walks (Cubs Way!), sixth home run, an RBI, and a run scored.  Rafael Lopez, Tim Torres, and Jonathan Mota were the other Smokies to record hits and with Torres’ being an RBI double.

On The MoundKyle Hendricks was outstanding, and really has been all year, quite an impressive start.  Hendricks worked seven scoreless innings giving up three hits while walking one and striking out seven to earn his fourth win of the season and lower his ERA to 2.44, wow.  Brian Schlitter doesn’t give up runs, ever, or at least it seems that way.  Schlitter worked a scoreless inning in relief giving up two hits; his ERA is now 0.90 on the season.  Marcus Hatley worked a scoreless ninth inning for his second save of the season giving up one hit while walking one and striking out one.

Daytona 5-23 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Daytona pounded out twelve hits but could only manage to score four times as they lost 8-4 to Jupiter, the Cubs were 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.  Wes Darvill was 1-for-3 with two walks, a double, and a run scored, he’s having a rough go of it, only hitting .167 on the season.  John Andreoli continues to have a solid season, he was 3-for-5 with his sixth (!) triple of the season, and two runs scored.  Jorge Soler was 1-for-3 with a walk, his tenth double of the season, an RBI, and a run scored.  Dustin Geiger is making a case for a promotion with his play, he was 2-for-3 with an RBI, his 40th of the season, he’s played in 44 games.  Tim Saunders was 2-for-4 with his thirteenth stolen base of the season in the loss.

On The MoundZach Cates didn’t have his best stuff in this one, he worked five innings giving up four runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out four.  Jeffrey Lorick, who very rarely gives up anything, worked one inning giving up one run on one hit while walking three.  Sheldon McDonald was also touched up; he worked two innings giving up three runs, one earned, on two hits while walking one.

Cougars 5-23 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Long, odd night in Peoria that resulted in the Cougars losing 9-8 in fourteen innings.  Here’s the odd part, the score was 8-8 after four, the Cougars couldn’t score over the next ten innings and the Chiefs only scored once for the win.  Pin-Chieh Chen had a solid night at the top of the lineup going 1-for-5 with two walks, two RBI’s, and three runs scored.  Albert Almora has returned to Kane County swinging the bat, he was 4-for-7 in this one with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored, he’s 7-for-11 since returning from injury.  Jeimer Candelario had a productive night going 2-for-7 with his sixteenth double of the season, and four RBI’s, he’s got his average on the rise, it’s now at .267 on the season and he is hitting .333 over his last ten games.  Dan Vogelbach was 1-for-6 with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored in the loss.

On The Mound – Rough start for Dillon Maples, his worst one since returning to the Kane County rotation, his offense bailed him out so he did not factor in the decision.  Maples worked 3.2 innings giving up eight runs, five earned, on six hits while walking three and striking out four.  Lendy Castillo was about as good as you could be, he worked 5.1 scoreless innings out of the pen giving up five hits while walking two and striking out nine.  Jeffry Antigua was also solid out of the pen going two scoreless innings while striking out four.  Justin Amlung did everything he could to keep this one going but ended up suffering his second loss of the season.  Amlung worked 2.1 innings giving up one run on one hit while striking out three.

Smokies 5-20 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – The Smokies used a huge fourth inning to secure game one, with the game tied at one the Smokies exploded for seven runs in the fourth en route to a 9-2 victory.  The Smokies pounded out twelve hits and scored nine times in just seven innings, and were 5-for-15 with runners in scoring position.  Matt Szczur was 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI’s, and a run scored, he’s now hitting .302 on the season.  Arismendy Alcantara had a huge game going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI’s, and two runs scored.  Christian Villanueva was 1-for-4 with his third home run of the season, two RBI’s, and a run scored.  Rafael Lopez, and Rubi Silva each had two hits in the victory, Silva added a double, and an RBI.  Jonathan Mota was 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and two runs scored.

On The Mound – The Smokies only needed Alberto Cabrera in this one as he went the distance for his fourth win of the season.  Cabrera went seven innings giving up two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out six.  He improved his record to 4-1 and lowered his ERA to 3.69 on the season.

Smokies 5-20 line game 2

Full Box Score

At The Plate – The Smokies used all their bullets in game one as they could only manage five hits in a 1-0 loss to Chattanooga.  Ronald Torreyes, Ty Wright, and Eric Jokisch all had one hit a piece; Jokisch had the only extra base hit for the Smokies.  Christian Villanueva had a solid game going 2-for-3 in the loss.

On The Mound – Eric Jokisch got the start in game two and was even better than Cabrera in game one; unfortunately he couldn’t get the win.  Jokisch worked six scoreless innings giving up three hits while walking one and striking out five.  Marcus Hatley took over and also took the loss, he worked two-thirds of an inning giving up one run on one hit while walking two and striking out one.

Daytona 5-20 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Daytona couldn’t get much going in this one as they could only manage six hits and one run in a 4-1 loss to Jupiter.  The D-Cubs were in it until the end but Jupiter was able to plate three runs in the eighth to break this one open.  Zeke DeVoss had another strong game, that’s two in a row for the struggling center fielder; he was 2-for-3 with two singles.  Javier Baez seems to be heating up at the plate and making much more contact, he was 2-fo-4 with two doubles, and an RBI, he’s now hitting .262 on the season.

On The Mound Kyler Burke is probably a name you have known has been missing this year; he has been working at extended spring training and made his 2013 debut tonight.  Burke was solid going five innings giving up one run on four hits while walking two and striking out five.  Eduardo Figueroa, who seems to pitch every day, was hung with the loss in this one after being roughed up.  Figueroa worked 2.1 innings giving up three runs on five hits while walking one and striking out one.  Sheldon McDonald was his usual solid self, tossing two-thirds of an inning giving up one hit while striking out one.

Kane County 5-20 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Another very tough loss for the Cougars against the best team in the league, the Cougars lost three out of four, all three by one run, quite the fight in these games.  Gioskar Amaya went 2-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, and two runs scored.  Dan Vogelbach was 2-for-5 with two RBI’s; he’s now hitting .286 on the season, and has twenty-five RBI’s.  Jeimer Candelario is heating up, he was 4-for-5 with two RBI’s, shocked he didn’t double, and a run scored, he’s now hitting .267 on the season.  Rock Shoulder wasn’t able to register a hit in this one, but he did walk three times, he was 0-for-2 with a run scored.

On The MoundTayler Scott got the start for the Cougars, and did his best to hold off the Kernels but they eventually got to him.  Scott worked 5.1 innings giving up five runs, four earned, on eight hits while walking two and striking out four.  Nathan Dorris was roughed up which is a rare occurrence, he worked 1.2 innings giving up three runs on three hits while walking three and striking out two.  Steve Perakslis worked a scoreless inning out of the pen while walking one.

NOTES:  Iowa was rained out.  On a more serious note, there has been some terrible weather ripping through the midwest, I just want to take this opportunity to say that my thoughts and prayers are with those of Moore, Oklahoma, terribly sad.

Smokies 5-15 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – It was smooth sailing for the Smokies until the eighth inning when they saw their 4-2 lead turn into an 8-4 deficit that the Smokies couldn’t overcome.  In an odd stat, the Smokies were caught stealing four times in this game, that’s usually doesn’t bode well when you make that many outs on the bases.  Arismendy Alcantara was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the loss.  Rubi Silva was 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, and two caught stealings.  Jair Fernandez had a big day going 2-for-3 with a walk, his first home run of the season, two RBI’s, and a run scored.

On The Mound -  Eric Jokisch was solid in this one, but did not factor into the decision.  He went 6.2 innings giving up two runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out five.  Trey McNutt was roughed up out of the pen going two-thirds of an inning giving up two runs on two hits.  Brian Schlitter wasn’t much better as he took the loss, he worked two-thirds of an inning giving up four runs, two earned, on three hits while striking out one.

Daytona 5-15 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Another day, and another disaster turned in by Daytona, at this rate they probably wish the weather turned crappy again.  They were thoroughly dominated by the 15-23 Stone Crabs as Daytona still can’t find their offense that has been MIA since all the rain outs.  The D-Cubs could only manage one run on five hits in this one, all five hits were singles, they only walked once, and struck out ten times.  John Andreoli, Javier Baez, Dustin Geiger, Ben Carhart, and Chadd Krist all recorded one base hit each in the loss.

On The MoundAustin Kirk wants April back as he has been atrocious in May.  Kirk got the start today and was handed his second loss as he went four innings giving up six runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out four.  Luis Liria did a solid job out of the pen as he worked two scoreless innings giving up three hits while striking out one.  Sheldon McDonald was good as well going two scoreless innings giving up three hits while striking out one, no that’s not a typo they had the exact same numbers.  Frank Del Valle struggled a bit going one inning giving up one run on two hits while walking two and striking out two.

Kane County 5-15 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Solid win for the Cougars as they brought their record back up to .500 at 18-18, and it’s a win over the Cardinals system so that’s always fun.  The Cougars pounded out eleven hits while scoring four runs and were 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.  Bijan Rademacher likes to hit baseballs, he was 2-for-4 with a run scored in this one, he is now hitting .360 on the season.  Dan Vogelbach was 2-for-4 at the plate with two strikeouts, I only mention that because it’s rare, he usually puts the bat on the ball.  Willson Contreras is putting a nice little season together right now, he was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI’s, and a run scored, he’s now hitting .294 on the season.  Marco Hernandez was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and a caught stealing, one of two by the Cougars in the game.

On The Mound –  Tayler Scott is having himself quite a season so far, and he was dominant today.  Scott went 7.1 scoreless innings giving up two hits while walking two and striking out two to get his second win of the season.  Nathan Dorris has been even better this year, he worked 1.2 scoreless innings to earn his third save of the year, he gave up one hit in doing so.

The Venezuelan Summer League Cubs were back in action today, and things went much better as they didn’t give up twenty-two runs again, but they still lost 8-7 to the VSL Phillies, full box score is here.

Iowa 5-7 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – The Cubs really had nothing going all night against the Sky Sox as they were blanked 5-0.  The Cubs could only manage four hits in the loss, and were o-for-1 with runners in scoring position, a rather uninspiring effort.  Dave Sappelt owns triple A (tiny bit of sarcasm here), he was 1-for-3 in his debut with Iowa tonight.  Luis Flores, Nick Struck, and Edwin Maysonet had the other hits for the Cubs, all singles, and Struck was the starting pitcher, like I said, not a good night.

On The Mound - 2012 minor league pitcher of the year Nick Struck, is finding 2013 not as comfortable as last year.  Struck worked 5.2 innings giving up five runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out six, his record fell to 0-3 with the loss.  Yoanner Negrin was solid out of the pen going 1.1 scoreless innings while walking one and striking out two.  Zach Putnam also had a scoreless appearance, he worked an inning and struck out one.

Smokies 5-7 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – No that is not a typo, yes that was the final score, and yes they only played five innings.  The official reason was wet grounds for the shortened game, but I think it might have also been a slaughter rule.  I’m going to go out on a limb and say this was and will be the worst game by the Smokies all year.  The Smokies couldn’t push across a single run, what’s worse is they only had four hits and made three errors, yikes.  Ty Wright, Christian Villanueva, Rafael Lopez, and Elliot Soto were all 1-for-2 with a single in the shellacking.

On The Mound – Look away, or just avoid this part if you are squeamish.  Matt Loosen got the start, and you guessed it, the loss as well, his first of the season.  Loosen went 2.1 innings giving up seven runs on four hits while walking three and striking out two.  A.J. Morris was beat up out of the pen, sort of, Morris went 1.1 innings giving up six runs, all unearned, on three hits while walking two and striking out one.  Tony Zych wasn’t much better, he worked 1.1 innings giving up three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out two.  New game tomorrow, forget about this one.

Daytona 5-7 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Just an awful night all around the minor league system tonight as Daytona was crushed as well, at least they managed to score three times.  Daytona could only manage six hits, and three runs in the loss, they also made two errors, seemed to be a theme for every team tonight.  Javier Baez was 1-for-4 with his sixth home run of the season, an RBI, and a run scored.  Jorge Soler was 1-for-4, as was Ben Carhart, Carhart scored a run as well.  Taiwan Easterling was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI’s in the loss.  Javier Baez and Jorge Soler each made an error in this one, Baez his twelfth, and Soler his first.

On The Mound –  Just a rough night from the D-Cubs pitching, Ben Wells got the start and saw his record fall to 3-2 with the loss.  Wells went five innings giving up five runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out two, what’s more disturbing is that Wells gave up three home runs, he’s now given up four all year.  Sheldon McDonald was the lone bright spot for the D-Cubs as he worked a scoreless inning out of the pen.  Starling Peralta continues to get hammered, he worked one-third of an inning giving up five runs on two hits while walking two.  David Cales was also roughed up, that is a rarity for sure, he worked 1.2 innings giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits while striking out two.

Smokies 5-4 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate - Oops, the Smokies probably want a do over after this one as they were manhandled all night.  The Smokies only managed four hits all night in the 8-0 loss.  Arismendy Alcantara, Rafael Lopez, Joanthan Mota, and Eric Jokisch were the only Smokies to record hits in this one, all singles.  Blah.

On The Mound – Not much better on the mound for the Smokies in this one.  Minor league pitcher of the month Eric Jokisch struggled for really the first time all year.  Jokisch went three innings giving up six runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out three, his record falls to 3-2 on the season.  Tony Zych was solid out of the pen goin two innings giving up one run on one hit while walking one and striking out two.  Kevin Rhoderick struggled with command but fought through it as he worked two innings giving up one run on three hits while walking three and striking out two.  Brian Schlitter did some mop up work in this one going one scoreless inning giving up one hit while walking one.

Daytona 5-4 line

Full Box Score

At The Plate – Daytona came to hit tonight, one night after they were postponed, maybe that day off did them some good.  John Andreoli was a force from the lead-off spot going 3-for-4 with two triples, a walk, an RBI, and three runs scored, he’s now hitting .340 on the season.  Zeke DeVoss and Javier Baez were both 0-for-3, but both guys scored and run and had two RBI’s.  Jorge Soler was 1-for-3 with his third home run of the season, two RBI’s, two walks, and one run scored.  Ben Carhart continues to rake, he was 2-for-5 in this one with a stolen base, he’s now hitting .314 on the season.

On The Mound - P.J. Francescon got the start, and the win as he had one of his best outings of the season.  Francescon went six scoreless innings giving up three hits while walking one and striking out five.  Starling Peralta really struggled out of the pen going 1.2 innings giving up five runs on six hits while striking out two.  Sheldon McDonald was solid to close things out as he worked 1.1 scoreless innings giving up one hit while striking out one.

Kane County 5-4 line
