Iowa Cubs Update (as of 5/21/12)

The I-Cubs were looking pretty good last week, then the weekend came and it saw Iowa drop three straight to end the week 2-4.  Despite losing three in a row to close out the week, the I-Cubs are 5-5 in their last 10.  The team continues to be a revolving door as the big club has had numerous injuries.  This is good and bad, good being that the Cubs can rely on Iowa to develop big league ready players, bad because it ravages Iowa’s talent pool which makes the results less than desirable.  Anthony Rizzo is still here, and PCL pitchers are still having nightmares.

Tennessee Smokies Update (as of 5/21/12)

The Smokies are on a roll coming off a week where they went 5-2.  Currently, the Smokies sit in last place in the Southern League North Division, but it’s tightly packed.  Only 6.5 games separate first place from last place, and the Smokies have made up ground on 2nd and 3rd recently by going 6-4 in their last 10.  The Smokies boast the 4th best ERA in the Southern League, a big reason why they have been making up ground and playing solid baseball lately.

Another tough week for the Smokies, but they got some help on Sunday.  Junior Lake was added to the roster now that he is fully healthy, he should start helping the Smokies offense immediately.  However, with one addition there was a subtraction as Jonathan Mota, arguably the best hitter to date for the Smokies was promoted to AAA.
